Re: Welcome Caleb Houstan!
Houstan projects to be nearly a G-league all-star this year. Indeed, in that format, his lack of defense won't matter a lick and he is virtually certain to go for 15+ ppg.
This gap-year he will play should get his confidence up for his "real" rookie year next year.

Re: Welcome Caleb Houstan!
How did this thread got to 80+ comments so fast ? lol
He won't be part of active rotation, and if team is any good or not wracked by injuries he won't play more than 20-30 games for 5-10 min, at most.
Frazier played 10 games in rookie year, total of 44 min.
He will spend majority of time in G league and develop there, hopefully he can turn into solid player in future. 3 and D type prospect.

It really is no wonder why they don't keep their 2nd round picks. They don't know how to scout. This guy is a scrub and will become nothing.
Their inability to move up 3-4 spots and grab TyTy Washington or a few more for Wendell Moore is mindblowing. Why trade #35 BEFORE the draft??? I just don't get it. It eliminates your flexibility to make a move up. We have pieces to move... Ross, RJ...

35th "trade" is hard to even call trade, they just moved it to not bother with it, for literally nothing

Yah the FO should just set up a poll on reddit and let the fans choose . We'd be killing it with our favorite can't miss shooter Nesmith and his career 30% 3 point shooting rate and Bouknight, and his ability to get any shot he wants.
Probably the same people crying that Franz was so unathletic he'd be a career backup last year.
I like TyTy, I think he will be good, but watch the playoffs. It's guys with the size, length, and shooting ability like Houstan that win you basketball games when it counts. He's a project that's why he was there in the 2nd round. We've got three PGs, not sure why we would need a 4th. I like Wendell Moore as well, but he's 6'4" with really long arms, and a year and a half older.
I agree they should not have traded pick 35, they should have rolled the dice on another tall guy that potentially will eventually be able to guard multiple positions.
Oh, and enough of the Ross rhetoric. He doesn't have the kind of value that can move you up in the draft. Maybe a top45 protected 2nd round pick if we are taking back salary. And I really like RJ and think he can be good, but that it will take his rookie deal for him to develop. He doesn't have a whole lot value at the moment either.

I'd have drafted Koloko at 32 and probably Procida at 35 so we'll see how they pan out.

Bro we have literally 10 2nd round picks over the course of 2025-2028. We didn't need 35 to make a deal. I assume the teams ahead of us wanted the guys that they took. Do you blame them? Tyty was a "lotto lock" for nearly a year.

Out of those 10 do you have confidence that they could even hit on one of them? I don't.
More than likely they will become cash considerations or nobodies.

lol... i know right.
come on skin.... you make it seem like 2k.... if you want someone... another team will make a trade cuz you "want that player".... what if they are excited to go for that player as well... or players in that range. then you still have to compete with other teams trying to do the same... and many teams might be looking at it like... "man... so many quality player might fall into our laps to fill out the roster." lol
but needless to say... Houstan had a down year.... and that happens. maybe we are looking at a player that if he stayed another year... he would be a mid first rounder. I don't know.... neither do you... and shoot.... neither will he ever know.
BUT.... the magic saw something in him that MAY help the team... and i'm excited to see that that may be. as a 3-D... if he puts in the work he might be something special still. a part of me still sees no reason he might not end up a steal.
only time will tell.

What is your definition on hitting one of them? You mean being able to draft a Jokic, Manu or even Arenas type.of jackpot?
Or just a helpful role player like qe used to have in Gorat and KOQ?
More likely, we are like the 90% of the league and get someone who lasts for less than 5yrs in the league. Not that big of a deal.

Agree... weren't we all screaming about a 3pt shooter? Well Caleb is/was known for it. So.give him a chance to see if he lives up to it. A high-end 3&D is the highest expectation we have of him.

If the kid made 8 more 3s on the season.... he would be 40%+ 3 pnt shooter and possibly a first round nod.... 8 3pnters. If that's the difference between being a "meh" player... and "OMG he's got potential".... i'll take the Magic's decision any day and run with it.

Devos family live in Michigan and cheer for them on TV. This pick was dialed in from someone within the family.
That's the only explanation. Why take another someone who can't shoot for beans? At least getting a specialist would make some sort of sense.

The next Wes Iwundu AT BEST. Dude couldn't even make it when the coach favored him and the team was terrible.

That is exactly what is happening. Blind faith.
We have the worst shooting backcourt in the league and this guy won't even get a look. Guaranteed.

What does hitting on them have to do with anything? If the teams ahead of us were willing to trade, the Magic have tons of 2nds to move up with. I think it is more likely than not that teams ahead of us wanted the players they picked. 35 ain't changing their mind.

No you can't assume that. Are the future seconds as high as 35?
The fact they traded it before even seeing how the draft unfolded is just incompetent.

It's bit of a moot point, if he made 8 less he would shot 30% for 3 and 35% overall.
Let's not overthink this, kid had very poor college season and he probably should have stayed for another year. He didn't want to gamble on himself and he was told by his family, agent or made decision by himself to enter draft.
He was 8th in ESPN's top recruits. It's good thing to have, but doesn't mean all that much knowing RJ Hampton was 5th and boy is playing himself out of nba.
He will spend year in G league. And that's pretty much given. Is that best career path for him? I would say no. Imo he should have stayed one year at college, because we see trend of sophmores being drafted high year after mediocre or flat out bad freshmen seasons. I don't think player can learn a lot about basketball in G league. That's why nobody actually "develops" in developmental league. That's why Bol Bol looked the same in nba each and every year.
