PS the Kawhi & Pippen comparison are laughable ... it is not only the talent level ... it's about who coached them ... Kawhi & Pippen had the best EVER coaches ... Popovich & Phil Jackson.
Bud is just a coach who is friendly with the players , implemented the 5 out offense with Giannis on court that any elementary school coach would do so. It took him 2 years and alot of luck and probably called out by his players to add the dunker spot on offense that made wonders. In any case Bud has done nothing to improve any of our young players. This board is similar to Donte board... it took you 4 years to realize that he is not good enough even if he tried his best.

Let me point you HERE: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1615871&p=58705478&hilit=thon+superstar#p58705478

before you ignore the context of the comparison I'm drawing, one in which I explicitly mentioned San Diego State Leonard and not wholly evolved NBA Leonard. There is a difference between drawing a comparison to a prospect at a stage and an NBA player.

Might be playing with decent focus (sorry Nwora) and decent energy (sorry DJ) and decent composure (sorry Thon) is the key to staying outside of Bud's doghouse.

If Bud loves you he's going to trust you with minutes pretty early on. From the little bits I've seen the past few days it seems Bud really loves this pick.

So ceiling is: K. Leonard

Most hopeful is: M. Bridges

Floor is: tall version of Liggins or T. Craig.

There's a bit of variance.

Suki needs to bulk him up if he's going for Leonard/Butler body types.

Absolutely, and those qualities really shine in defense. The high energy, scrappy loose balls and aggressive rebounding kept DDV on the floor too.

MJB seems to fit the profile.

If I were to throw out one of the likelier positive outcomes, it would be Covington.

I think Marjon is going to get every opportunity to get some rotation minutes just like Donte. Both athletic and willing defenders. I don't think 15 min a game is entirely out of the question depending on what we do the rest of the offseason.

Wes got 20 minutes a night and closer to 30 during the playoffs. Given how useless he was on offense, there's plenty of opportunity to go around. Another indication that they really like him, looks like they're putting his locker right next to Giannis to absorb everything.

Donte was a great, high iq defender. Light years ahead of MarJon with 4 years of college and tourney experience. I think MarJon gets some of Nworas minutes but the kid needs coaching and a few years of reps and a ton of minutes to even sniff DDVs game knowledge and experience.

Is it legal to have both a Marjon and a Rayjon on the same roster? Imagine if the Bucks could also find a Raymar or a Jonjon?

Being a great defender takes more than having the physical profile of a great defender, there a lot of guys who have all the physical attributes needed that are pure dogsh*t on defense especially so when they first enter the league. Some special players just have a natural feel for the game like GIannis did whereas others it takes many years and the right situation for it bore out like it did with Andrew Wiggins(who people had projected as an elite all world defender)

Beauchamp is still learning the game, I think its a lot to expect for him to be an immediate contributor. DDV as mentioned was very accomplished coming into the league already being a 2x national champion and Final Four MVP, Mikal Bridges who has been compared was his teammate. Wes have been doing this for 13 years and knows his role, I'm assuming he's coming back too. I think stints with the Herd this year are probably the most realistic expectation

I don't think anyone's championing him as a great defender in the immediate. That's not really the point here.

But you're right, it does take more to be a good defender in this league. One of those components of "more" is motor, effort, willingness. These attributes are written all over Beauchamp which is why I find the line drawn to Wiggins pretty disingenuous.

There are obvious distinct advantages for Beauchamp when it comes to the DDV comparison. Credit to DDV for making an impact at his size, but we're not comparing apples to oranges here, there are different roles. It's one thing to have a 6'4 guard to wreak havoc off ball with limited versatility, it's another to have a 6'6+ wing with 7 foot length bringing the versatility to switch 2-4. Being 6'6 with length is the easier role and path.

Mind you those weren't supposed to be 1 for 1 comparisons, my point was more to temper expectations of an immediate contributor since it takes more than just having the raw tools to be an good defender. Motor is a good one since it isn't something you can really teach but obviously there is more yet or else Thanasis would be the GOAT.

I was busy getting married during draft weekend, but this is a pretty solid pick. MarJon was a favorite of mine early in the process. Stout and versatile perimeter defender with a non-stop motor and some nice feel as a tertiary playmaker. Not sold on the shot, that's likely gonna be what makes or breaks him. Was shocked to see Liddell fall so far.

MJB isn't just raw tools, he's already a really good defender. Watch some full game tapes. I've seen him live. Impact defender.

Just saw that MarJon is a Clutch guy. Maybe he can help us bring in Lebron next year.

Congrats!

Why did Liddell fall so far? I was super high on him, and given that LAL got a 2nd round pick for cash I was all in on getting Liddell.
