Barton isn't nearly the same guy he once was. Good deal for Denver to get KCP and clear mins for Bones.

Dunno why so many people are negative on the Nuggets after this deal. Yeah, Monte is solid but Murray is coming back and Bones is emerging as a great spark plug off the bench. They don't need more small guards...they need bigger guards who can play POA defense. They'll miss Monte's offense but which player doesn't score more efficiently playing next to Jokic?

I think you're underselling what Monte brings to the table. He's a super smart player who steadies the offense and is great at setting people up at their spots and making the right decision when called upon. He's clockwork type efficiency almost in the Chris Paul mold making good passes never turning the ball over and when he decides to shoot it's always a good shot. 48/40/87 4.4 A/TO and was great in the playoffs. And that for 2/20 is awesome. Seems like a lot to give up to swap Barton for KCP. If they were gonna duck the tax this is a decent way to do it but it definitely doesn't make them better imo.

A lot of his efficiency is due to Jokic spoon feeding him for open looks. Keep in mind that his value probably won't be getting any higher after coming off a season as a starter. He'll be coming off the bench this upcoming season and battling Bones for minutes.
KCP has been putting up similar numbers on similar efficiency without playing with the best passer in the league. He's also a bigger guard and much better defender, which is what Denver needs the most right now.

For all this talk about new media, Draymond has quickly turned into old media - saying outlandish things to try to get eyeballs to the point of even dissing the guy most responsible for his success.

Monte Morris is the NCAA career Ast/Tov leader, he's been efficient for a minute.

Not surprised at all. He's the definition of steady.
Again, offense isn't what Denver needs most right now. Jokic has proven that he can turn a modestly talented offensive roster into an elite offense. What they desperately need is defense, and POA defense in particular.

If the deal were just Morris for KCP I'd call it a good deal for both, Morris probably a bit more valuable overall, but good fit for both. They tied in a dump for Barton though (on top of dumping Green earlier). Need somebody to fill out that rotation and they're running short.
Murray
KCP
MPJ
Gordon
Jokic
Is a real solid 5 if Murray/MPJ come back decent. After that... Bones, Jeff Green, Nnaji, ???

Maybe they can add someone like GPII or Otto Porter Jr.
They still have the tMLE which may become the full MLE.

They should have enough to get one more guy, but I think it's likely to be tMLE, main 5 is 128 million already (135 adding the 3 rookie 1st rounders - Bones/Nnaji/Watson), only 22 (15) million total to stay under the luxury line. It'd be close to the full MLE if they pay to dump Ish and Jeff Green as well.
Payton could be available in that range, I'm expecting OPJ to get a bit more.
I bought a boat.

This is where I'm coming from.
If you believe in Murray, then KCP seems the better backcourt partner to him than anyone else on the roster, and gives them a starting 5 that can be hoped to rival the best in the league.
If you prefer Morris to Murray, well then this is a mistake.
Beyond that it's a question of how much you gave up for KCP and whether you could have got him at a better price, or if there's some other 3 & D target you think you can get who is at least comparable to KCP.

I'm not in love with the fit for the Hawks, but they got such a solid value that it's hard to argue with doing it.

To me that IS new media.
Old media was guys like The Sports Reporters, where you had a bunch intelligent, established journalists putting thought into every word they say because it would do massive damage to their reputation if they just made something up for attention and it turned out to be ridiculous.
I get that people want to make a distinction between a player's podcast and stuff like radio & TV, but to me the shift in approach really came as ESPN embraced the same stuff the 24 hour news networks embraced, and it had the same effect: Toxic polarization and superficial understandings.

Hey y'all, made a new thread for the new season now that we're talking about big moves being announced for the off-season (Murray, etc).
De-stickied this, but no reason why conversation pertaining to the '21-22 season shouldn't be able to continued here.

I'd say PTI was a big turning point. It debuted in 2001 and while it had serious journalists they were clearly in shoot the **** mode. It was fun tv and I loved it when it came out.
But the carbon copies which progressively got worse monopolized tv. I'm much more ambivilant on the show given the people it has led too.
