New Bagley Contact
Per wire tap, the Pistons plan to resign Bagley for a deal north of $10M per year. I wonder how many years the deal will be.
I really hope they front load the deal since they don’t seem to need the cap space this year so they have more flexibility next off-season.
Let’s post the details and discuss them here as they come in.

Yeah, I saw a rumor that it was going to be similar to the Kelly Oubre contract from last year.
If the team is paying him more than other teams would likely offer, I wish they could get a 3rd year team option in case he out plays his deal.

If true, that's a good deal from the $$ and contract length perspective.

Needs to be first order of business given his ridiculous cap hold tying up everything else until he's signed or renounced.

I thought the cap hold dropped down to the the qualifying offer as soon as the team extended it?

Could easily remove the cap hold also if he wants too much money, but I'd assume we already essentially have a deal in place. Hopefully its just something like 2 years $21-$22 million..... agent just might hold out to gage interest from other teams the first few hours of FA and then announce the deal tomorrow night.

It's weird, but no.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q37
A restricted free agent is included in team salary by the greatest of:
His free agent amount (as defined in the table above)
The amount of his qualifying offer (see question number 42)3, but not a Two-Way qualifying offer (see question number 82)
The first-year salary in a first refusal exercise notice (a notice given to the player that the team is exercising its right of first refusal by matching an offer sheet (see question number 42)
His free agent amount in this case being 250% of his previous salary.

That’s a wild one. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: New Bagley Contact
i'm most interested if there is an option. maybe the team bumped his offer up in the $12M range (way above his market value) just to add the flexibility of a second year team option.
i've maintained this entire time i'd rather not bring bagley back but if we did it'd be as short term as possible. hopefully it unfolds like that. hey, at least he seemed to be extremely grateful to join the team last season so hopefully he continues that attitude and helps the culture.

Just give him the Pistons Plumlee contract...who says no?
Really hope we don't overbid for his services considering we added more guards and bigs than ever before. We almost have too many bigs in this case

Magic fan coming in peace. You could probably get Bamba for less and he's better in my opinion.

Pistons need someone who can play PF, Stewart/Duren/Noel probably enough C's for now.

Re: New Bagley Contact
Mo Bamba spaces the floor mo better. Plus he blocks the shots mo better. 24 years old and a legit 7' tall with a 7'10" wingspan. Mo would be a solid pickup if we can find a taker for Kelly O.
Let Mo and Bags split PF minutes at about 24 minutes each per game and see who develops better. Give them each 2 year deals with team options in year 2.

If your signing Mo a 3 year deal gives you his Bird Rights when that expires.bstein14 wrote:Mo Bamba spaces the floor mo better. Plus he blocks the shots mo better. 24 years old and a legit 7' tall with a 7'10" wingspan. Mo would be a solid pickup if we can find a taker for Kelly O.

I don't get why you'd give him a 2 year deal, unless you're not planning on him being here long term - in which case why sign him in the first place?

Re: New Bagley Contact
I’d rate Jalen Smith ahead of both
Then Bagley. Bamba can shoot 3’s and block shots, but strangely, that’s about all he can do. And I thought Bamba was Orlando’s C all season - I thought Wendell Carter was their 4.

Re: New Bagley Contact
What are Bagley, Bamba and Jalen Smith's ceiling? I mean why are we choosing Bagley, what is his potential.
He's below average on defense and isnt anything special on offense. Seems odd to chain ourselves to him like he could become the next what, exactly? If he can't hit 3s hes just another guy in the paint.
A poor man's KO? Without the passing? But has some hops to catch lobs. That puts him at center really. I dont want him guarding Tatum or Giannis.
Such an odd guy to absolutely need to add to the team. I dont see it.
