Free agency

Post#1 » by Norm2953 » Wed Jun 29, 2022 6:24 am

I'd be curious about what everyone's expectations are with the start of NBA free agency, about 40
hours away.

I'd be curious to see if Portland will announce Simons and Nurkic have re-signed with Portland. Portland's
other free agents include Joe Ingles who has a $19.5 million cap number and the much talked about
Bledsoe contract.

We'll likely see a flurry of activities around the league. I'd be curious when the Grant trade becomes
official but it'll be interesting to see if Portland is active on the first day. At least Portland will be
able to operate in the free agent market and still has two TPE's to use if they care to do so.

I would be interested in a Bledsoe for Kelly O swap, but wouldnt add incentive. It takes another 3M off the DET books in 2023 offseason and opens time for the kids for DET. We get a spacing backup to Nurkic which would be a nice compliment.

Then target a SF w/ the TP MLE (Warren, OPJ, Anderson) and if that doesnt work sign Ingles as a stopgap maybe? (Or is he a PF now?)

I’ll be curious what Nurkic & Simons gets because that will give us an idea of how far away we’ll be from the luxury tax. I don’t think the team will go over it.

If we did trade Bledsoe for Olynyk we’d likely be just under the luxury tax without any other further moves and would likely prevent us from using the MLE.

Frankly though, if we’re not going to go over the tax, and we miss out on the worthwhile MLE guys there are worse moves than this one.

Like you said he spaces the floor, he can play the 4 a little, and he’s on an expiring which would give us a contract to flip at the deadline if needed for matching salary. As a last resort its not horrendous.

Meanwhile the moves have begun with Murray going to Atlanta for Gallo and 3 FRP and a swap.

Portland has formally offered Ant a QO and no news on the Nurk front. The Grant deal is still not completed

Extend Simons and Nurkić.
Waive and stretch Bledsoe.
Sign an MLE tier player like Porter Jr./Hartenstein/Bamba.
Sign Ingles at a BAE level contract.
Fill any remaining spots with minimum contracts like McLemore.

Not the sexiest free agency, but realistic.
Because love can burn like a cigarette.
And leave you left with nothing.
Leave you left with nothing.

]We really need to lift the protections on that pick we owe Chicago if we want to get a good piece back for Bledsoe.

I wonder if we could get something extra from Chicago for guaranteeing that pick to be conveyed next year? Is that possible?

I think CHI would actually try to squeeze us.

Best I could think is a 2026 SRP for total pick protection removal. Thats the earliest they can move a SRP.

Man no way do I do that. Total protection removal of a pick that could be good next year if everything goes sideways

I LOVE FREE AGENCY! It's my favorite time of year. I'm anxiously waiting for some kind of WOJ-Bomb regarding our Blazers, and will for a while cause our roster is straight-up jacked right now. Cronin has a ton of work to do this summer.

Assuming we retain Simons, we are loaded 1 through 3, but we still have huge question marks at PF & C. Mark Williams would have been great to have right now, but I digress. SS might become something great too, but I see him more as a project just like ANT was. Williams (or Duren) would have helped us immediately.

But looking at the playoffs this year... Are the Centers in this' NBA... a dying breed? Just look at what the best playoff teams this year featured at the Center positions, and I'm beginning to better understand OUR roster construction. It will be interesting to see how things shape up, but we again... have big question marks at PF & C.

Lastly, have we publicly introduced SS? Just curious, because the lack of finalization of the Grant deal, with the public intro, I too find strange. Could something big be brewing? I think I may need medication to control my anxiety this Free-Agency, but I hope Cronin Crushes It!

It was a brutal heist by SA. Atlanta might have recreated their version of the Dame/CJ back court.

Yup. This trade tells me Dame could probably fetch 5 unprotected picks and an elite prospect from the right trade partner

consider that Chicago is also hindered by Orlando having their pick only top 4 protected. Try to think of something that would allow Chicago to get their pick back or less protected and I imagine they would bite.

Yeah or we just deal a pick that goes to another team once the Chicago obligation is met or before if we trade a pick outside of the parameters of the protection ie if 4-14 pick is conveyed

Could Portland include Jerami Grant in any trade for Durant?

Oddly enough the piece that would probably make the most sense if we were trading for Durant is uhhh, Damian Lillard although I know it would never happen.

We have a reasonable replacement for him in Simons and it wouldn't require us to gut our depth as much. The Nets also don't have any control of their own draft picks for the next 4 years so it doesn't benefit them to stink. They could flip Kyrie for something and still try to field a competent team.

I want KD, because I want the parade, so dont take this as me not wanting him - but KD would pout and sit out like the cupcake he is if we moved Dame for him. He would 10000000% only want to come to PDX to play w/ Dame.

Eric Bledsoe (19.375M)
Anfernee Simons (S&T @ 22M - Counts 11M for BRK)
Shadeon Sharpe (5.932M)
2024 PDX FRP Swap
2025 PDX FRP
2024 PDX FRP Swap
2026 PDX FRP
2027 PDX FRP Swap

For

Kevin Durant (47.649M)

That actually works under the cap rules (PDX operates normally, BRK operates w/ Ant counting as only 11M). I dont believe it works w/ Nas added. Offer the TP MLE to Dipo hoping he ring chases.

G - Damian Lillard / Vic Oladipo (TP MLE)
G - Josh Hart / Vic Oladipo (TP MLE)
F - Jerami Grant / Nas Little
F - Kevin Durant / Justice Winslow
C - Jusuf Nurkic / BAE
