KD requests trade from the Nets
KD and Weaver go way back to KD's high school days. Reportedly KD was going to go play at Syracuse but Weaver left for another job.
That said, I'd say there's no chance he's coming to Detroit.... BUT any team with cap space might be needed to help make a deal work. Might be best for Weaver to sit on some of that money for a bit and see how things play out.

The NBA is always bananas; one of the reasons it's hard to lose interest, even when the team you follow has been in purgatory for 15 years.
I'd agree facilitating a move for other assets would always be in the Pistons' best interest.

Can't help but feel like we should have waited to make the Burks/Noel trade.
Not that we'd be able to get KD, of course, but that shift in the market may have created better opportunities.

Damn, I wish Weaver had a little more cap room to sin eat because there are going to be A LOT of teams looking to unload cap.

I mean, you'd think our own draft day trade would have set a higher price on pure cap space than what we fetched in our second Knicks trade.
Oh well. Spilled milk. No sense crying over it.

Re: KD requests trade from the Nets
too bad we didnt hold onto our cap space a little longer, we could have potentially gotten a bigger haul helping facilitate a KD deal.

Phoenix and Miami are apparently his two preferred choices.
Bam/Herro/Picks or Ayton/Bridges/Johnson and picks likely going to Brooklyn.

Right, a lot of teams are going to gear up to make room for a potential KD run. It's KD, locked up on 4 years left on his deal and is still immensely productive. He has high value and teams will likely bid in desperation in their efforts to make room

Those are dream packages for Brooklyn. I doubt they fetch that much from either team.

Ayton doesn't have THAT much trade value on a MAX deal.
Herro doesn't' have THAT much trade value on a MAX deal either. (he's eligible for an extension this summer and Rich Paul wants max money for his client).
I would agree if Ayton and Herro were locked into good value contracts but both are about to get paid big time.

I agree. But I still don't see blue-chip core players like Bridges and Bam moving in a deal like this. I'm not convinced the Nets will have enough leverage. I think Ayton/Cam with a lot of picks is a realistic package.
I also believe Bam is against the rules for the Nets to acquire- can't trade for 2 different designated rookie guys and they already have Simmons.

I hear you and I was a little miffed at first too but 1 year contracts aren't really big contract dumps so a 1st to take on a 1 year deal probably wasn't realistic.

I mean, we upgraded that 2025 Bucks pick to the 13th pick for absorbing 9 million.
I'm not arguing based on any objective estimation of value- I'm arguing based on what we already got from cap space.

This is why you dont give up the cap space for a max spot. All sorts of crazy **** is about to happen.
Especially not for Noel and Pistons 2023 2nd rounder - Pistons tried to deal this years second rounder and eventually took a guy who wont play in the USA.

Re: KD requests trade from the Nets
The question is what does Brooklyn want and what is available? Do they want cap room and pecks because if they want cap room and pecks we can make that happen I’ll be at the pics will be in that distant future because our first is wrapped up

Re: KD requests trade from the Nets
unless these teams get multiple other teams to help throw salary at brooklyn they're gonna have to give some good players up.
for phoenix, they can send ayton but would have to have another team fill out the cap difference because signed-and-traded players can't be sent with other players from the same team.
and with miami they have a huge gap in salary, they have their top guys (butler, bam, lowry) making between $30-40M, robinson making $16M but it's a negative value contract and herro has the next highest salary at $5M.
so my guess is any trade that happens is going to have to involve multiple teams swapping salaries and picks to balance out value.
