Really like the player, the trajectory, and the fit for a franchise in dire need of a legitimate lead guard. And even though it looks high on the surface, he contract is really solid, too, given the cap is at like $123M or something. Brunson is a great acquisition - I have absolutely no complaints about the move and am very happy about it.

Now let's see if Leon can do anything else positive in the player acquisition arena outside of getting his godson to sign a generational wealth level contract.

I like Brunson

I'm in the camp that his improvement is real and the numbers w/out Luka aren't a fluke, but would regress a bit over the course of a season

So if you think he's just a case of contract-year shenanigans, then I get not liking this move

If he keeps it up, it's a good contract. If not, it isn't. Pretty simple

My concern has always been that we're still kind of building backwards. We don't have a true franchise guy, at least I don't think anyone on this roster can develop into that. So we're kind of spending a lot of money on guys who may or may not be worth it in a vacuum, but aren't really worth it all together. I mean, if we re-sign Mitch for 4/60 as rumored and extend RJ for over 20 mil next year, that's over 110 million for our starting lineup of Brunson/Fournier/RJ/Randle/Mitch

The approach seems to be, make big signings for guys who should be improvements but aren't stars. I don't think that's ever really worked for a team with no real star before

Now, if Randle gets back to 2021 form, RJ steps up into an All Star caliber guy, and Brunson replicates his w/out Luka numbers, that's different. But that's a lot to ask

I can't help but see us treadmilling. You can take a bunch of moves which are all fine individually, but combine them and have them not work together, and I think that's what's gonna happen here

With that being said though, I am excited to have a competent PG for once. Looking forward to seeing him on court, if I still think it won't work out in the grand scheme of things.

So in about 2 years he will become an unwanted contract after failing to take the Knicks anywhere. Sounds about right

Depends, is he going to tear his ACL like Dinwiddie, or be perpetually injured like Brogdon?

From a purely production standpoint he's nowhere close to being a contract overpay, especially compared to other PGs.

Once this new crop of young guards starts to emerge he will look like a big time overpay. He’s very average

Those new guards will end up on larger contracts, because the cap is going up.

We're in a league where Kyle Lowry makes $30 million per.

Perk throwing hints that Lnicks committed to Brunson, in regards to KD and he smiled.

 Hey assuming that the Knicks don't get hit by tampering charges and lose both Brunson and draft picks, he's a Knick. So cheer the poor guy on!!

Come on bruh I’m a battered Knick fan. I can’t cheer him on untill the PTSD goes down a little. Talk to me in the season.

And Miami is looking to dump that salary after 1 year experiment. You are proving my point. There are bad deals in the NBA and Brunson just became one of them

The first yr is a wash salary wise because we traded 3 players.

So we consolidated into one younger player

He is not a great three point shooter. He is sort of undersized. More of a scoring guard. Average defender at best. He doesn’t go to the line consistently. He is the ideal Knick point guard

I actually really like Dirk too. But Mavs fans tears are delicious.

We saw at first hand Brunson as #2 falls short and thats with the best possible #1 in Luka

Ofc thats perfect for the Knicks who treats first round of playoffs as championship

How am I proving your point? The going rate for a starting PG is around $23 million, outside of rookie contract guys there are no cheap PGs that are good.

Are Fox and SGA really worth $10 million more per season than him?

Damn, after seeing what Simons just went for, I might have to take back my slight overpay comment.

And it's $104M, not $110, according to Haynes. That's 21.1% of the cap - not a big deal AT ALL:
