Despite of being a much worse player than Jokic and also older,he's getting just 13 million less dollars than him. This is unquestionably a overpay, the Wizards don't mind staying medicore every year. Beal is simply the advantage of a team that's willing to do a significant overpay for star, but not a gaming changing player. Can't blame him for wanting the money.

Yikes. Beal is a good player (Top 20?-25) but he has injury concerns and coming off a down season as an undersized scoring guard. They had to drop the brinks on him if they wanted him to stay though. If this attracts KD then that would justify it but idk...

Is this the worst contract in the NBA? Hes a number three option on a title team.

This story wrote itself after Beal opted out. Wizards trade him a 1-3 years later to a desperate contender and everyone's happy.

Can’t turn down that kind of money. Like…no rational reason to.

Well at least he's healthy. Couldn't say that about Arenas or Wall when they got paid.

Too much for him. How many all nba selections does he even have ? 1 I think.

Wizards are going to hate this deal in a couple of years . Dumb franchise.

He clearly loves WSH.
Been through plenty of crap team wise.Stayed loyal.Got paid.
Too much? Ofcourse just like every single super max signed.

Our owner only cares about money. Local radio says the team only wants to make the playoffs in order to get the two home playoff games that allows them to be profitable. Leonsis doesn't care about winning a title. He's the worst owner in the NBA. Only has paid the luxury tax once. Routinely trades 2nd round picks for cash. Kept the worst GM in the NBA in power for 15+ years (Grunfeld). Traded a first just to save money at the deadline by getting off of Andrew Nicholson's horrific contract (the traded first turned out to be Jarrett Allen) that said worst GM gave four months prior (Nicholson played like 10 minutes the whole first half of that year). Hasn't done a serious interview or answered hard questions in a decade. Has a motto is the team will never tank.

I don't blame the GM Tommy Sheppard. He's done the best he can do in circumstances that no one can succeed in. Every trade he's made has been a win.

It has to be , him being your number one player has led the Wizards to yearly mediocrity.

On one hand, I respect Beal for sticking to 1 Team during this Player Empowerment era. On the other hand, I kind of want to see him play for a Ring, even if he had to leave. Though he might end up like John Wall if he did. Looks like he just wants the bag.

What a joke.

If I was on the wizards I'd be doing all I could to get out. I couldn't consciously play along a guy that gets paid more than half a million dollars per game to let people walk by him on d so can go down the other end to shoot again.

What the hell was the franchise thinking.
