DDV makes big plays on the defensive end, Monk makes big plays on the offensive end.

And it really did feel like Monk played his best ball against the Kings (he isn't the only one). Good to see the breakdown from Pizza on this. Maybe he is a guy that, give him some security, he would be in a situation with a good friend and that might bring out the best in him.

I'm taking Monk over DDV. IMO DDV just isn't good enough to start, and doesn't bring what I want off the bench. His role is tougher to define than Monk's.

I will be happy if we sign Monk, but that can't be it. The off-season cannot just be Monk/Murray run it back. This team needs serious wing depth and size. And we need to find a trade for Richaun.

The Hali for Sabonis move was risky. I want more of that from Monte.

Yeah I can certainly see that. And yes, the wing depth needs to be addressed this off season. Size and length. I don't want the Kings to be going after the Mo Harkless' any more. They need to be able to hold down a consistent role.

To play devil's advocate I will take the shooter. Kings hired a defensive minded champion level coach to come in and get the best out his players on the defensive end. Even with playoff caliber defense played in G1C the Kings need floor spacers with Fox and Sabonis to stand a chance.

Monk's shooting would have a greater impact on wins vs DDV's defense.

Yep. And that's exactly what I was thinking when the appointment was made. I love everything Mike Brown has said so far...except 1 thing.
I was going to ask this later, after FA as we will know more of the squad by then. However I would love to get everyone's thoughts on this.
In Brown's intro press conference he mentioned putting in a system that is easy for these players to understand. I could have the exact wording wrong there, but to me this was a super scary statement.
I'm sorry, but the Kings can't have bought in this fantastic defensive coach to put in a system that is basic.
Brown should be implementing the defense that he wants, yes it still needs to mould into the talent you have, but there's only 1 way to find out if they can or not. If they can't, move them on.
It's not as black and white as this, but let's see how it pans out, because if the Kings are still less than average on the defensive end with a defensive minded coach, there is a serious problem.

Monk in my opinion is an upgrade over DDV.

It's a good get. Good deal too for both parties. Ties in Monk's contract with Sabonis. Not that it's a big deal or anything.

It's refreshing to have the Kings sign a player out of the gate in FA that will definitely come in and help, is a young player, and is above average. When was the last time that happened?

Smitty breaking it down. Monk didn't get the full MLE. Kings have another move to make plus trades.

In order to use MLE, didn’t $9M or so have to be filled to reach cap?

So we gave Monk the MLE (good with that), but now we have no money left to play with? Holmes market is non existent.

This team needs to get aggressive. Holiday, Len, Harkless + a 1st. Get us another difference maker!

This will be for the all-conquering Sasha Vezenkov I would think.
That way he gets more than he was making in Europe and for 4 years is my guess.

DDV sucks. I don't know where this love affair with him came from. Solid wing defender and fun to watch, but he's AWFUL offensively. Looks for his shot first 100% of the time and is a complete ball stopper. Wouldn't bother me that much but he's got to be among the most inefficient scorers in the entire NBA and has been his entire career.

Malik Monk has gotten better each year and actually looked really solid with the Lakers last year. With his preexisting chemistry with Fox I'm much more excited to have him than I would've been with DDV.

True and the league must feel this way also. He still hasn't signed yet. Be lucky to get the TMLE, but more likely he takes an even smaller 1 year prove it deal for a conrender. Pretty telling no rumors about teams chasing him.
