Re: Lakers FA/trades
Love Damian Jones....I think something we've missed since the 2020 season is a lob threat. DJ and Dwight last year just didn't have the same bounce that you would expect from those names last year (especially DJ), and couldn't really stay on the floor for extended periods of time due to their defense (especially DJ). A mobile big enough big that could stay on the floor for around 20ish minutes who could catch lobs for the minimum is a win in my book.
I'm kinda meh about JTA. Troy Brown JR, considering his age, is a solid player to have on the wing for the minimum. Better than the unplayable guys like Ellington Bazemore, and Ariza that we got last year.
Lonnie Walker move baffles me though. He's young enough that I could see him improving in a different situation....he never seemed to fit in with the Spurs and always had a lot of competition in his spot. But numbers tend to not lie, and for a 3 &D wing he statistically isn't a good shooter and plays poor defense. I hope he proves me wrong.

Re: Lakers FA/trades
Seems like this is a players market type year though, so can't ask for much. I don't think we've had a year where FA values are getting so inflated since the Moz/Deng summer.

Too many FA left to waste the TPMLE on Walker. Absolutely hate it for the Lakers. But I’m not shocked. This Front office is terrible.

It's a year deal. Capspace is the priority.

He’s actually literally one of the worst defenders in the NBA. It was a terrible move. But what do you expect?

Nah he's not the worst defender, he's a neutral defender that could be better with consistency.

Lonnie Walker was one of the NBA's worst defensive SGs last season, all in a Low Activity defensive role guarding nobody.

Re: Lakers FA/trades
I don't like L.Walker signing, but value wise considering the market, it's more than fair.
D.Wright just got 2 years 13 mil
D.House got 2 years 8.5 mil
Amir Coffey got 3 years 11 mil
Pj Tucker got 3 years 33 mil
Oladipo got 1 years 11 mil
Tyus Jones 2 years 30 mil
and I could go on and on. This is the market. I think this context is important when judging the L.Walker move.
D.Wright just got 2 years 13 mil
D.House got 2 years 8.5 mil
Amir Coffey got 3 years 11 mil
Pj Tucker got 3 years 33 mil
Oladipo got 1 years 11 mil
Tyus Jones 2 years 30 mil
and I could go on and on. This is the market. I think this context is important when judging the L.Walker move.

Keep Bron happy, gonna have an extension decision to make.
Mad Dog Russo suggested that Lebron take less on an extension to enhance his chances to win titles, following Harden's example.

A lot of that is based on poor data. There just isn't enough good data on him to go that route. Need to use the eye test until the data builds. He's never had a prime defensive role on Spurs with Murray and White ahead of him his entire career. Eye test says he looks fine but has issues with consistency.

So you’re saying he’s better than Danuel House then? He got less per year

Agree with on the signings being blah. Lonnie is not a good defender btw. This was a complete waste this early into FA. Rob has no **** idea what he’s doing. He’s pretty much does whatever Klutch wants him to do. There’s nothing worse than a freaking yes-man… dude stands for absolutely nothing. Klutch/Lebron is a significant part of why I’ve lost my passion for the game.

Poor data because you disagree with it? Lol One can learn a great deal from 3 year data sets. There’s a reason he’s never had a prime defensive role.

From spurs talk
Let’s start with his defense. Although Walker was slightly improved on the defensive end this year, he’s still a really bad defender. In fact, according to ESPN’s real plus-minus, Walker was the 548th best defender in the league out of 557 players. His problems on defense are multifaceted. First of all, he’s a terrible help defender. He’s slow to read situations, loses his man when he’s away from the ball and rarely provides strong help even if he rotates on time. His individual defense is better but he struggles to hold his ground and can lose focus for minutes at a tim
This just doesn’t sound like someone I’d make as our biggest FA acquisition.

Curious what you mean by poor data. Do you mean the sample size is too small or that its not representive (like he was injured or something). Plenty of reasons why data can be poor.

Yeah small sample of him being tasked with significant defensive assignment since he was behind Murray and White.

Huh, 4 years, 214 games plus practices under Pops and RC Bufford and they decide to let him go elsewhere, go figure.

He got his most minutes last season, why would Pop keep playing him if he didn't like him? They would have kept him had they not supplanted his position through the draft for development: Vassell, Primo, Branham, Wesley
He just won't have a priority spot for development so the did the right thing and let him go, you can read several articles on this when they were deciding whether to keep him or not.
