1) eh, teams don't really play that way (picking on certain defenders) very much until playoff time

2) when they do pick on a defender, it's usually either like an undersized defender they are abusing in the post, or a perimeter player who is really slow. Gallo isn't guarding guys like kyrie/harden/curry out on the perimeter and he's not defending bigs in the post. He's not really the type of guy who you're going to pick on.. just based on the the matchups he usually has on D and the way offenses usually operate.. I think for a guy playing 15-20 mins a game to give us some offensive spark off the bench, he'd be ok

But the defensive concerns is why I would prefer OPJ to him..

A simple pick and roll gets him isolated or he drops and gets a 3 in his face. I'm fine with the signing if it happens for the O, but I don't you can just handwave away the D impact even in regular season.

Is that vet minimum, BAE, or part of the MLE? (Sorry, I don't have the numbers for the various categories memorized any more.)

Too big for either BAE or minimum.

I was originally OK with gallo coming but now I am totally against it. People on here talking about gallo as the 2nd coming.. He reminds me of Blake Griffin from about 2 years ago..

I'm literally hoping for better sorry gallo fans..

MLE still in play for Gallo in CHI. Bulls hard-capped with LaVine signing still to be done.

To KD's defense, it must be super frustrating having to deal with Kyrie and all his drama. Should've won last year if Kyrie didn't get injured, and had a good shot this year too if not for Kyrie's antics (which also pushed Harden out). Imagine having a co-star that just plays whenever he wants. With Kyrie opting in, KD was probably like "nah. I'm done with this ****."

I only just saw this. Lakers barely have the assets for Kyrie. Gotta love how media gotta force them into everything.

Trying to talk myself into Gallo. He’s 34 soon, but has been consistently a pretty good NBA player for 13 years. He’s shot slightly worse but been the same guy in the 40+ playoff games he’s got under his belt. He is shooting with size, and primed to give you 10-12 pts off the bench pretty consistently. I’d hope he could play next to Grant Williams, and be our 7th or 8th best player. His advance stats are all fine/good, except obviously not hot on defense. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gallida01.html

My question: can he create his own offense? I’m skeptical, but admittedly don’t watch him much and have tried to ignore him when we play him for 13 years because I’ve thought he kind of sucks. And he’s not great, but I can understand why Brad would target him because he could play a specific and needed role for us — unless he’s exclusively a spot-up-and-wait-for-the-ball guy at this point in his career. (I guess that’s still useful, but less so)

Two “all possessions” vids from games this spring:

Upshot: he makes some plays, slowly, off the dribble, occasionally. Especially to OKONGWU!! ;)

OPJ would be my choice too. I remember that back in the 2014-15, when Porter was in his second season with the Wizards, Paul Pierce took him under his wing. If the Celtics really want Otto, then Pierce is the guy to bring him in.

One one hand, these guys are uber-talented. On the other, my Celtics team got no drama/diva.

ESPN has their entire NBA apparatus out there. They are dying for the lakers to be good.

If not Crowder, Harrell would give us a more muscle vs the Bucks Heat and Sixers. Really solid vet. Active, rebounder. Good motor. Scores in the paint.

It's usually the center, not the PF who is the big man in PnR coverage though. Which is 1 reason why centers are much more important to a defense than PF..

Gallo is a PF and would barely ever play center here..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

They have a $6.5 million taxpayer’s mid-level exception to use on a free agent, and a league source said Thursday that a deal involving it would likely be consummated by the weekend. The Celtics also have a collection of trade exceptions, which would allow them to acquire players without sending back matching salaries. The largest, worth $17.1 million, will expire July 18. A source said that there was not a great deal of urgency to use that exception now, with the Celtics likely preferring to let the free agency dust settle before seeking options in the coming weeks.

Some potential free agent candidates went off the market Thursday, including guard Patty Mills, who re-signed with the Nets, and forward Nic Batum, who re-signed with the Clippers. According to a league source, the Celtics have expressed interest in veteran forward Danilo Gallinari.

Other potential mid-level exception targets who remained unsigned in the early hours of free agency Thursday included Kings guard Donte DiVincenzo, Nets guard Bruce Brown, and Pacers guard T.J. Warren.

Otherwise, the Celtics will likely be operating on the fringes this week. The Celtics on Wednesday declined their $1.6 million option on second-year forward Sam Hauser. According to a league source, this move was done so the team can sign the sharpshooter to a longer-term deal, and that it is expected to be agreed upon in the coming days.
