Actually, I think it's more team-friendly when he gets his money upfront in this case. Why? We all know this team is not contending for a title this year or the next.

So let the guy get the most money from his contract now and out of the way, and by year three or so, we probably can find that extra piece that can take the team to another level. And because of the lesser amount owed to him yearly, we can maneuver our cap space easier.
