The way McGee should be used is in limited minutes against opponents that dominate the mavs inside. Even on the Suns, his minutes decreased in the playoffs. And the mavs seem to be again bucking against the small ball trend. It's a trend for a damn reason, it works. Mcgee should get half of what he's signed for and no player option.

The new FO is really starting to disappoint me...

He would've went to Milwaukee if the Mavs didn't sign that deal. 3rd year is a player option, so it's really about 2yrs 15mill.

Just because you start the game big doesn't mean they end the game big as well

You think he's not going to exercise that option? He's probably going to be washed by then. He won't get 7m on the market at 38yo.

In 3yrs his 7mill cap hit is not going to affect anyone or the team. Cap jumped 11mill this year alone, and this was a yr coming off of COVID.

This was a more than fine signing, pretty good actually

If the 3rd year is a player option, I don't like it. You overpay him and don't even get a team option?

If they told McGee that he's getting a starting job, it is indeed problematic. They're going to do what they did with Powell? Start him, but play him 15-20mpg?

Yup that’s probably exactly what they’re going to do. McGee will at least make the playoff rotation. He’s a good rim protector and a solid rebounder, he averages like 2.5 blocks per 36 minutes. And he’s a bigger body to set screens.

The next step is trading Powell for a wing

I like it. He’s going to be an upgrade over Powell. Powell was a decent roll guy but his defense is terrible. McGee gives you better roll ability with added defense.

Wood at PF is intriguing. Should be a team that excels at rebounding.

I'm fine with Mcgee at 6.5m a season. Hr can contribute, block shots, defend the rim, n more. He can start the season starting that fine, up to his play to determine whether he keeps that spot .
If only the mavs could find away to trade Powell and bertans and a pick for a replacement for Brunson.

The Mavs pay 4M per for a few inch and 1M per for making free throws.

I think age is overstated stuff. In a small ball system, a 7-2 shot blocker might not matter play more than 18 mins. McGee gives you flexibility in lineup. You can win the tip with McGee or end game with an elite rim protector.

If Wood works as 5, you get leverage with FA situation in 2023.

As of now, I don't want to pair Wood with McGee a lot on court for spacing issue. If Bamba is still available, I'd love to trade for Mo.

Yeah!! Now to find a taker for Powell. He needs to be dumped if we cannot find someone to take him off our hands.

As much as he's been clowned on throughout his career, it's downright heartwarming to see how thoroughly JaVale has turned things around. Hopefully he won't start SHAQTIN' a fool in Dallas

Let's go Mavs!

Couldn't we have just offered this deal to Hartenstein? 3 years, last year player option. For reference, he signed with NY at 2/16 which is pretty close. No state income tax in DAL, more guaranteed money in total, the chance to play with the best PnR/PnP PG in the NBA who's made guys like Powell look good, and possibly a starting role. Maybe we did offer and he didn't bite but I can't help but wonder that we may have settled for McGee.

Overpaid for sure.

Dallas can't sign mediocre players for cheap.

But ok, at least i will not see no more that **** pussy Powell.

McGee had some nice moments against us in the playoffs but was ultimately played off the floor as the series moved on for Biyombo. In fact, look at his minutes and production in the RS vs the playoffs for almost his entire career and you'll notice quite the drop.

I'd much rather have a wing with the TMLE and a big like Biyombo or somebody similar at the minimum instead.

Hatnstein would've been a better signing, I don't like it f it's 2 years, I hate it if it's 3.

To your first point I don't believe they were interested in Hartenstein and as you stated correctly the Knicks paid him more as well. Plus he's much more of an offensive and less of a defensive center.
To this point I don't see what quality wings would be available at this price tag.
My only "issue" is the age at the end of the contract but between him, Woods, Maxi we finally have a solid big rotation and the price itself is just fine.
