Well we haven't given a new contract to Cody Martin yet and we haven't fully guaranteed Kelly Oubre for next season, so how did we arrive at the conclusion that we plan to trade James Bouknight by the trade deadline? It would seem the decisions about Martin and Oubre come first.

What is your offer to him this summer look like?

$18-$21 million over 3 years with maybe a team option for a fourth year at the same rate.

I was thinking something sub MLE so something along these lines. I was actually thinking 2 year, $10M prove it deal.

I feel the same with the prove it bridge contract.

But I’d go 2 year + 1 year player option to keep the per year lower.

Garrett Temple signed a 3/15 with 10 guaranteed. I would think something like that, anything other than that and he is going to be difficult to trade or even provide value. You can find guys like him on the minimum in my opinion and I trust our player development to find another one.

Also Oubre contract is 12.6 next year with 5 guaranteed. Doubt we decide to just eat 5 mil in dead cap to waive him. So I would operate under the assumption that he is basically fully guaranteed and on a value contract.

3/24 with a team option on year 3 feels right if the second half of his season is similar to the first. His 3P% alone is likely to raise a few eyebrows around the league, he's not going to slide too far under the radar for us to get him on some Jarred Vanderbilt bargain like Minnesota has.

Being the only player on the entire roster who consistently plays any defense, it would be tough to let him go, but I'm not paying more than a 4-year MLE for him.

I would let him walk for 3/24 personally. I just don't see him getting that much better for that contract to ever become a bargain.

Honestly he is a 2/8 type guy in my mind.

I'm not saying that Martin is a super amazing player that needs to be overpaid, but ...

He has the 4th highest VORP (value above replacement player) on the team, behind only LaMelo, Miles, & Terry.
He's one of only 4 players on the team with a positive +/- rating for the season along with the same 3 guys above.
His WS is the 4th highest on the team.

Cody is a really nice player to have and does a lot of little things that help the team win.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Not arguing that, he is really good at doing what we ask of him. My concern is he is having a career year shooting the ball and it is not sustainable. Where are those numbers if he is shooting a solid 36% from three vs the ungodly 47%?

He is averaging 8.4 ppg. Just seems like it could turn into a bad contract pretty quickly.

I don't see paying an very good to elite wing defender $6-8 million per year as a bad contract. Even if his 3 ball drops back to 30-35%

Cody Martin played 46 minutes in the win over the Knicks to me there is no better illustration of his value to this team

So where are we at with Thing #1?

Was hoping we'd have heard something pretty early related to re-signing him.

Zach lowe reported the wolves are interested.

No excuse to not pay Cody at this point with Miles self-destructing, pay the man he's earned it.

How are we like the only team that hasn't signed anyone at all either internal or external? Total dysfunction

I know it seems like that, but a decent amount of teams haven't done anything

Celtics
Pacers
Warriors
Spurs
Jazz

Hawks haven't signed anyone- Did trade for Murray
Pelicans haven't signed anyone- gave Zion extension

1. Opening days of free agency are for overpays.
2. The Miles situation destroyed the plan, FO is deliberating on how to proceed. It gets worse by the hour :(
3. Team never planned on signing anyone other than a 3rd string PG or camp bodies, although point 2 might change that.

And I thought last off season was a trainwreck.

Not all mitch's fault, but the past 2 years will be his legacy.

I'm honestly ready for a clean out of the entire front office. I know it won't happen this year, but I hope next summer it happens. I have zero faith in this group

We just never seem to have a plan to not finish in the 8-10 range in the standings.

Maybe nothing will ever change with MJ as an owner.

Really frustrated we gave away a lottery pick this year. But at least we will have our lotto pick next year, plus denvers. Maybe combined we can move to top 7.

Cody is a pretty easy bring back since we have his rights, we have other moves to make first (obviously) before we make it official
