Even if we offer QO, I think we can keep his Cap Hold for the entire season if we really wanted to do that.
Also, if he signs the QO, gets suspended 50 games. Someone at deadline might trade for him not even for the playoff run but just to have his bird rights to resign him the following summer for a team that won't have true cap space.

yeah all semblance of cheering for Miles Bridges is gone gone for me. trying to imagine what it would take for me to have the slightest interest in supporting him as a member of my favorite team again, but his actions after the incident (fleeing the scene, posting workout video like nothing happened) make that seem extraordinarily unlikely.
I think the team should keep the QO for now and let the legal process move forward. but once it's to a place where there's some clarity on what's going to happen with him in the legal process and with league discipline, they should quietly let him walk. he shouldn't wear a Hornets uniform again. it's crystal clear to me that the next great Hornets team is not going to have him on it.

Silver and the NBA should make Miles an example and hand down a severe punishment. Hopefully x years suspension.

I doubt Miles is good enough to erase the stink of this even if he's cleared. Jason Kidd is a HOF'er and still has the wife-beater stigma whenever he messes up like in Spillgate.
Miles is probably gonna be blackballed like Meyers Leonard even if this is a one time incident.
Miles was a high character guy until this calendar year. His scouting report coming out of college was high character guy. Classic case of hanging around the wrong crowd. I imagine he had a childhood dream to be a rap star and he just chose the wrong friends once he got into the league.
not disagreeing with you about the perception of Miles' character going back to college. but unfortunately it's a very common trait among domestic abusers for there to be a huge discrepancy between their public image and their behavior within their relationship.
I'm reminded of a baseball writer I used to like a lot named Jonah Keri. I read him regularly, thought he was funny and pleasant, and even met him on one occasion and got my book signed. we had a nice, very pleasant conversation.
and then a few years later I learned he had been absolutely terrorizing his poor partner for years. utterly controlling every aspect of her life and making it a living hell. he's since been ostracized from the industry and was just recently given a prison sentence in Quebec.
that was a very important lesson to me to not let my fleeting impressions of someone influence my perception of that person, should allegations of domestic violence arise at a later time. I was so sure I knew him and knew he wouldn't do something like that, and I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

yup, it's impossible to know what goes on behind closed doors. People that messed up can be good at pretending like nothing's wrong.
My parents friends are a pretty good example of this, pretty chill people at get-togethers, nice people to talk to, etc... when all of a sudden we hear that the wife had been abused for years and was staying with a friend, while the husband fled the country once word got out. Would absolutely never have guessed in a million years. You just never know with some people.

I cant think of something like this in the NBA but this has happened many times in the NFL most recently with Tyreek Hill. He was able to get passed those issues. I still think he is a time bomb but he did get paid.

Re: Miles Bridges Arrested: Felony Domestic Violence, Wife Speaks Pg.85
While I’m still trying to process this and selfishly wondering what it means for the team I’ve followed for, been loyal to (even with a move and expansion Re-launch and 20+ year playoff series win drought) almost 30 years and religiously follow it just goes to show you never know what someone is really like behind closed doors. In hindsight, there were signs. Some people don’t know how to handle success and I’d say as Miles got better and it was clear he was going to cash in, he took on a personality that seemed different than the one we saw the first few years.
He’s always been a mental player though. That was evident even in the dunk competition. It was evident when he couldn’t come through in big games or in clutch moments even just hitting free throws. I’m not saying any of that is tied to what he’s done, but just interesting to look at all of that now with this latest event.
The mouthpiece thing seemed very uncharacteristic and I thought he’d face harsher punishment for it. He handled it appropriately though. But it did show that he didn’t have total control under emotional distress. That was obviously not a one off.
Overall, I’m sad for us all. The worst case scenario was a S&T or letting someone else offer a max deal that we don’t match. Never imagined this would happen. But I’d rather figure this out now about him than after we’re tied to a $25-$30m per year contract.
I’d also like to publicly apologize to the guy who suggested we trade him for Patrick Williams. Sounded blasphemous at the time but man that’d be nice now.

Glass half full the team is lucky this happened before free agency. It's infinitely preferable to only be on the hook for his qualifying offer as opposed to $25 million a year for the next 5 seasons.

This was tweeted over a week ago. The team definitely wasn't clueless with regards to Miles' issues.

interesting. the wording of that raises my eyebrow knowing what we know now. the reference to Flint in particular caught my attention.

Teams will and do hire private investigators before they're about to hand out 130 plus million dollars. I'm sure they didn't think he'd do all this madness though.

Honestly, with the resources most of these teams have, they should know everything about every one of their players... Their off Court habits. Who they hang out with. What vices they are into. What bad influences are around them. Personality profiles. Etc... obviously they can't know and account for everything, but they certainly shouldn't be shocked by a player who has exhibited some questionable behavior in the past. They also should have been very well aware of whatever outside influences were having a negative effect on his life, if that was the case.

Just want to say props to his wife for coming out and posting pics while explaining everything. She could've easily stayed hidden healed up or whatever and probably made millions in a settlement or something. I think it's pretty courageous to be honest. Good for her.

Re: Miles Bridges Arrested: Felony Domestic Violence, Wife Speaks Pg.85
Of course I'm just speculating with my last post. It would be very interesting to know exactly how this process works for most NBA teams. What is their budget for uncovering this type of information about potential draft picks, potential for agents, and their own players. Do they have their own private investigators? Is this type of information solely left up to the scouting department?
I know that if I was an owner and I was getting ready to invest $150 million on an asset, I would do a s*** ton of due diligence before I made that investment.

His son was saying that he saw daddy choking mommy, they were fighting, he tried to hit Daddy because Daddy was being mean, daddy threw her phone out the window, daddy threw her shoes out the window Etc

I'm fairly certain they have private investigators. Word also gets around the inner circle of the league if a player is acting up. Whether it be a scout heard this and told one of our scouts and agent chatter.
