I guess it was false reporting that we could only offer 4/54 for Mitch? I understand how his cap hold helped us get Brunson. Now Mitch is getting 4/60 though. I also was under the impression we needed to S&T for Brunson or we couldn't make any other moves because we only had minimal cap left it we signed him outright. I guess we will have to add Cam or Grimes in the Brunson deal to clear the space for Hartenstein? Then we are capped out?

I want Fournier gone no matter what these answers are!!

I think that was just his max extension he could sign before free agency. And even then he could have earned over $60mil with incentives and bonus’s. Now I think they could sign him up to 25% of the cap that he hit free agency. They may have agreed on the extension early just waited so Knicks could fit these other moves in.

For Brunson/Harenstein, Knicks cleared enough cap to sign both outright but they also can still work out a sign and trade and work Harenstein into the MLE.

Overall just have to wait until all the details on these contracts work out.

Ahh...we cleared enough to sign those two outright? That's over 30mil though right? Thought we were at 29-30mil. Some suggested the deal was more in the first year for Brunson. 28+mil. If it's 24mil it's still not enough.

I realized things can be tweaked before they become official. I just wanted to know HOW they can be tweaked.

I need Evan gone. Make it happen! Nothing else matters to me than at least one of not both Evan/Randle gone.

Honestly, it’s hard to keep track

Knicks had about $34mil in cap…I think real easing Taj cleared some extra cap. So I think you are right that they wouldn’t be able to fit Brunson and Harenstein on descending contracts with cap space…so maybe if no sign and trade they are ascending contracts and Brunson starts at $24mil which would work? Or maybe another deal to clear a few extr $ if Brunson starts at $28mil?

It does seem like they will work out a sign and trade since it would help the Knicks and Dallas…maybe Fournier gets moved there…or Cam

I think we may just have to wait and some more details and pieces will come out since there’s a few options.

A lot of info in this thread

Knicks have to be trading for an impact player because this is an all in season part 2

Exactly.... They are close to the team you expect them to ride or die with for a few seasons.

I’m thinking 2 of Randle, Rose, and Fournier will be gone soon. We’re paying RJ next.

Complicated stuff where maybe the three players sent to detroit get redirected to Mavs, and Brunson to Knicks, so Mavs get TPE - or some portion? You'd have to find his tweet.

The other variations are Fournier or Cam going out and creating different TPE's.

This is big news where tf is this lol

Dallas going to do a S&T to make a TPE for themselves and remove the protections on the pick they owe us in 2023, fair trade for both sides.

why would dallas remove protections when they're a luka injury away from tragedy? Would be quite stupid on their part

I have to admit I read the entire thread, including responses and I zero f*cking idea.

Cohen says they could do it but then states Rose or Cam could fetch more individually than the TPE would.

I "think" there's a move where Cam or Rose out means they get the MLE instead of exception.

Is that a reason? Doesn't feel like it. Cam cost a 1st rounder. He has 1st round value. He's paid 10 million. And...the Knicks would move his 10 million (and his inferred 1st round pick value) for the rights to sign a player for ....10 million (the MLE)

Don't understand. Valiant effort by Cohen to unpack all the options, but don't see what it benefits the knicks. To get Brunson another year?

brunson // Rose
Fournier // IQ
RJ // Grimes // Reddish

When you are a team operating as far over the cap as the Mavs are you don’t have many ways to upgrade your team. The only way to upgrade your team is to have salary to trade, or TPE’s to absorb someone another team doesn’t want. So if they don’t want Fournier (we would need to increase Brunsons contract by a bit because i believe BYC says he has of make 29m for Dallas to be match Fourniers salary) they can create a TPE that they can choose to use in the future and bring on a player. Losing Brunson for nothing is a terrible scenario for them, getting some salary to package in a trade or a TPE is necessary.

Is that worth moving Cam or Rose for?

We wouldn’t send them Cam or Rose, we send them draft right to a BS player or a highly protected 2nd.

Considering that we have their pick.... there is no reason to give them a useful TPE
