Re: Hawks acquire Justin Holliday and Moe Harkless
Super dope that we have two of the Holliday brothers playing on the same roster. The defense should be improved with the H's aboard.
I suspect this draft pick will be included in another deal.
I'm really sad to see KH go, though.

Trading him makes sense with your recent acquisitions

I like this trade for us a lot. We add veterans to our team and it fills a big void. I wish Kevin the best.Jamaaliver wrote:

He's not as unathletic as the stereotype would make you believe. I think the Mitchell/Huerter combo could work.

Lol all you can really hope for honestly. Only way the Kings win any games next year is if they run and gun, they have a lot of good scoring pieces but no defense

The AthleticThe first-round pick the Hawks received is lottery protected in 2024 and will be a top-12 [protected] pick in 2025 and a top-10 [protected] pick in 2026.
It then turns into two second-round picks if it hasn't been conveyed by then, according to sources.

That would actually fit Kevin well. He's an underrated passer. The ball movement should be fun for Kings' fans.

Re: Hawks acquire Justin Holliday and Moe Harkless
Both Holidays are good defensive players. Justin played well in Phoenix this year when given the opportunity.
Good back up PG when Trae is on the bench and they do not want Murray to carry the load of dribbling up court or defend the other PG.
Harkless is useless at this point, sadly to say.
If the back court is settled, now we should make at least one move to change our front court.
I believe we are in the mix to get Ayton, who could come in a three or four team trade, as long as the Nets do not want him.
Ayton and OO could be a good pair, then someone as a third big man to create a good triangle inside.

Bleacher ReportHawks and Kings Swap Wings
Hawks Grade: B+
The Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings got together for a wing swap that could help both teams. For Atlanta, this is far from the seismic shake-up it made earlier this week when it acquired Murray, but it's not hard to see how the deals are connected.
With Trae Young and Murray in the same rotation, ball-handling is wholly accounted for. Surrounding those two with three-and-D wings makes sense. And while Justin Holiday (33) and Maurice Harkless (29) don't have the overall upside of 23-year-old Kevin Huerter, they certainly check the second box in "three-and-D" more thoroughly.
Both have had solid stretches as shooters too. Holiday has hit 38.2 percent of his threes over the last three seasons. Harkless is more of a wild card. He's had two seasons with an above-average three-point percentage, but the last one was in 2017-18.
Losing Huerter before his second contract (which is very reasonable) even starts may be tough for some fans to accept, but getting two players with a good chance to make the rotation and a draft pick makes it worth it.

Re: Hawks acquire Justin Holliday and Moe Harkless
CBS SportsTrade grades: Kings ace deal by landing Kevin Huerter, Hawks give up valuable role player in surprising move
The Hawks offloaded one of their better young pieces to the Kings
Hawks Trade Grade: C-
After acquiring All-Star guard Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs, the Hawks deal Kevin Huerter to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Justin Holiday, Maurice Harkless and a future first-round draft pick, per Adrian Wojnarowski. The future draft pick is lottery protected in 2024, and it becomes top-12 protected in 2025 and top-10 protected in 2026.
This is a rather puzzling move on Atlanta's part, given how Huerter has consistently developed year to year with the Hawks.
I'm not sure what the plan is here with this Hawks trade. At face value, it just looks like the Hawks are trying to save on money. Huerter's four-year, $65 million deal that he signed in October 2021 kicks in this upcoming season, and by offloading him now the Hawks don't have to pay him that and drop $1.1 million below the luxury tax this year, per Bobby Marks. In the return for Huerter, the Hawks are getting two expiring contracts in Holiday and Harkless. They'll make a combined $10.7 million next season before becoming unrestricted free agents in the summer of 2023.
The money aspect of this aside, though, Huerter has been a valuable role player for the Hawks in his four seasons with the team. He's fit whatever role Atlanta needs, whether that's starting or coming off the bench, and he's been a consistent shooting option as a career 37.9 percent 3-point shooter. It's actually surprising they couldn't get more value in terms of returning players for Huerter if they were going to make him available.
The Hawks could still make additional moves, like trading John Collins, and they could recoup some of what they lost in Huerter in that trade. For that reason, I'm not going to be as harsh on the Hawks for this trade because something else could be coming down the pipeline, but if it's not then this was just not a worthwhile trade for them.

They got a 1st round pick for Huerter. What do you think Huerter’s value is?
And that 1st round pick absolutely stands a good chance of conveying. With the Spurs tanking, Lakers are old. Lebron will be 40 years old in 2024, that is the first year that pick could be acquired (lottery protected. And AD has played less than 50% of the games the last two seasons, plus he will be 31 years old in 2024 and he can’t stay healthy in his 20’s. The kings should make the play in by then and should be 8 seed the year after.
Looks like Utah may start a rebuild as well.

Re: Hawks acquire Justin Holliday and Moe Harkless
Huerter, a 6-foot-7 swingman, realized he'd be changing coasts and time zones from Atlanta, where he spent the first four seasons of his NBA career with the Hawks.
"Honestly, at first, it was tough to swallow with how far it is away," Huerter, a Maryland alumnus, said Monday during his basketball camp for kids at Impact Athletic Center. "I've never gone that far. I remember I was picking my colleges, I cut off all the West Coast schools. Just a six-hour flight, family getting to games, it's going to be an adjustment. Obviously, with the time change, most (local) people will be watching our games in the morning instead of staying up all night for them. So immediately, that's what I went to."
"Atlanta told me at the end of last year, 'It's not like we're looking to move you, but for anybody on our team, we'll listen. If a team offers us the right thing, obviously, everyone's available,' " Huerter said. "They went out and got Murray. I knew they were looking to upgrade their roster and they went out and got him. In some ways, you could kind of feel something was going to be happening. We had a lot of guards and a lot of mouths to feed and there's one ball that gets to go around.

I do respect that Travis has consistently been honest with guys when having conversations about being moved. He's mentioned several times since his hiring that the players are people first and that has to be taken into account in the decision making, relationship building.
I still hate they moved my favorite Hawk to Sacramento, though.

That's rough. I guess I'll be rooting for Clint Capela and Okongwu as my two new favorites.
