Probably effective but actually good? I don't think so. The league changed a ton between 73 and 79 it would have been very hard for him to adjust no matter what shape he was in.

How much did it change though? No major rules difference, the only big thing that happened duirng that time is of course the merger in 1976.

Yeah I think the biggest thing is the influx of talent, especially perimeter talent and just the general evolution of the game that resulted from the ABA guys coming in. For a 5 year period that is a pretty big change I think.

To be completely honest with you, I don't see any huge leap between 1973 and 1980. Teams used the same strategies and overall talent was bigger due to the merger, but not significantly bigger. Certainly not among top teams.
