Nice. Although we do better as underdogs tbh.

I imagine whoever gets KD will overtake us anyway.

Nope, he was never very athletic. Just incredibly fundamentally sound, smart, and tough.

I was into getting D Murray, really thought we needed that type of player. But Brogdon cost way less and is a better fit with his superior shooting. Really great trade.

Pacers have been trying to get rid of Brogdon for awhile.

They're a young team, trying to rebuild. The main guy they're rebuilding around is Haliburton. Haliburton can play the 1 or the 2, but it seems like they want him to play the 1, and brogdon is more of a 1.

So ever since Haliberton got there and started to play really well for them, Indiana seems to be really motivated to move him. and they get to clear a bunch of salary to help with their rebuild.

I don't think they're gonna be very good this year. Spurs have already signaled that they are tanking for Wembanyama. Pacers look to do definitely get a top 10 pick next year..at this rate, they may get a top 5 pick..

We're gonna see more moves like this between now and the trade deadline. any team who isn't very good, they'll make moves like this. Mine as well try and get a stud in next year's draft. Not just Wembanyama, but there's 5 or 10 dudes in. next year's draft who could be legit stars.. it could be much better than this year's draft - at least in the lottery..

Memphis, who overachieved that year. Everyone thought that pick would be way higher than 14.

Sacramento arguably did the year prior as well where we drafted Langford.

0-2 on those picks and then trading the Bane pick was not great. Nesmith I’m surprised couldn’t make it work, but seems to really get down on himself a lot. Get him a sports psychologist and he’ll be a good player imo

I’m still hoping Smart makes a late career leap with rim finishing and floaters, but.. Brogdon can score. If he’s playing with Gallo while Tatum and Brown rest, they’ll get baskets.

Our first pick will suck and we have Houston 2023 2nd round pick. Both picks have similar value

Bingo.

Murray is obviously better and younger. But like you said, Murray was a higher cost (3 draft picks + a pick swap vs brogdon who only cost 1 draft pick) and also Brogdon is a better shooter so better fit with our team, especially since smart and white aren't great shooters..

Malcom Brogdon is going to be asked to play 22-26 mpg by the Celtics and not 33-35 mpg. This gives him the best chance to stay healthy.

A. All the options are 2 guards, we’re loaded in the backcourt now.
B. We can use some of the TPE (say, 8 million), or use it to facilitate someone else’s trade and get an asset or two.

Its hard to complain too much about the deal. Theis wasn't even in the rotation basically 2nd round on, Nesmith had flashes but the c's can't wait for him to figure it out and the first round pick is gonna be 25-30 so really you didn't give up much.

The two ????'s are health, and money. This makes the Celtcis much more expensive, but if ownership is fine with that then it doesn't really matter. Health wise you just never really know, its an upside risk because if he's healthy he could conceivably be your third bets player next year.

Under team control three more years at a not terrible flat 22.5 per year. So basically if he's healthy this is a great trade for a good player at a nice price.

The TPE is far less likely to be used now, they are about 17 million into the tax already. Given how many second round picks they used to slide it forward letting it expire is a little bit of a blunder, but hey the team is good so who cares.

The inury thing is just the biggest issue. Just gotta hope he's healthy at playoff time.

Brogdon is very similar to Smart as a player, actually. Just a lot more injury prone.

Way better offensively, similar game but makes more of the shots he takes

Accounting for usage, not really. They shoot nearly the same on both 2-pt and 3-pt shots, but Brogdon takes more 2-pt shots.
