On a more serious note, all along I've been thinking that I probably would not want to pay the cost to acquire Durant, especially giving up Barnes. After some reflection, I'm even more certain.

KD is a great player. But he is 34 and has averaged just 30 games per season over the last three seasons. He has been excellent when he does play but has brought drama off the court everywhere he goes. It would be a huge risk.

When we traded for Kawhi, there wasn't that much to lose. Our core had peaked and a rebuild or retool was coming soon with or without the trade. If they had lost in the first round, they still would have lost Ibaka, Gasol, Green, Lowry over the next couple of years. They still probably end up bring terrible in the Covid year and drafting Scottie or another great young player.

Today, with Durant it's a totally different situation. We have much more to lose - the future of this team. If KD is healthy and committed, we have a short window to win a title. Then, we go into the abyss as we will have no Scottie, few talented young players, and few or no picks. I'm not against making a big deal but there is a difference between paying a high price and going all in. There will also be other players, hopefully younger, who will come on the market. Stars seems to be available every season now.

Maybe it's irrational and I get too attached to good young players, but this is just something I don't want the Raptors to do. I think I'll feel a little dirty as a Raptors fan if they actually do it.

There's no scenario that I'd ever be okay with giving Scottie Barnes in any trade right now. I think if the right trade comes, we do it. But we potentially could very well already have our number 1 option in Scottie. IMO he's gonna be a top 5 player in the league soon

We need Pascal to be competitive with KD.

We aren't trading a prospect of Scottie's calibre for a guy that will only be elite for another 1-2 seasons.

I'd be comfortable trading Scottie for a young MVP-level player in their prime, so Giannis, Jokic, or Luka. That's it.

I agree with this. I don’t want to give up Scottie, but if conversations are happening, I have to believe Scottie is at the core of the conversation.

Here is a more serious question: Which team is better? There is no question that Scottie is way better asset than OG, but OG fits better with KD and Pascal on offence and Defence.

This idiot really suggested that we trade Barnes ALONG WITH 2 of Fred, OG and Siakam plus 5 or 6 pick swaps for Durant. This is the kind of trade that makes us totally irrelevant even with Durant and having to build from the ground up in the future. He goes on to call Durant an "unprecedented prize". At best he's marginally better than Kawhi. This has to be one of the worst articles/opinion pieces I've ever read.

He's a much worse defender than Kawhi, and at this point of his career, a worse scorer too. You're not getting 2019 Kawhi with this trade.

Doug is maybe the worst sports writer in North America. And that's not just because he wrote this garbage. He's written unreadable garbage his entire career.
