I'm not buying nets disinterest with Ayton. He's a really good young center. former 1oa pick. efficient. plays d. i get that simmons can't shoot and you want floor spacers but claxton can't shoot either. what attainable center can? beggars can't exactly be choosers.

But, if TOR wants another title and are smart I am sure they will give Barnes who is not a sure fire HOF for likely 3 prime years of KD and title shots each season as long as its just OG Barnes and an ancillary player and picks for KD. There is no way a competent GM turns it down. Barnes isn't Jordan.
Masai already bamboozled one NY team w/ the Bargs trade, you really want the smoke? If the Raptors can turn Siakam/Vanvleet into all-star players, just imagine what Barnes will develop into.

Honestly it's the one thing that scares me about trading for young players that are still developing. Unless we fire Nash and hire a developmental HC, like Atkinson, or make sure to at least hire an assistant that can help then I feel like it'll all be for naught.
There's going to be many other huge decisions that have to be made in addition to whatever trade is pulled off.

Woj said same thing earlier today. It cant be more obvious Marks don't want Ayton, damn his own team don't want him.

Barnes is going to be an all star one day, any KD trade proposal has to start with him and draft capital

Windhorst was the opposite of Woj back then so im not saying im 100% confident they are both wrong, just that im not 100% trusting there isn't some subterfuge going on here.
why were the nets such an odds on favorite for Ayton pre-KD trade request?
Did they only want him with KD because that was the only means of improving with a Harris/Claxton/Cam S&T?
Or maybe KD wanted him here?
jmo but i think marks is just going out of his way to make it clear that Ayton isn't a headliner in a trade and also maybe seeing what else he could get in a 3 team. because of the rules with rookie extension players the Nets don't seem to have a lot of choices in terms of quality young players here.

Lol @ the Sixers. No one wants their bag of sh*t.
Unless we get offers involving Scottie Barnes or Jaylen Brown, I'm telling KD to shut his dumb ass up and be prepared to report to camp in two months.
And I would still trade Kyrie regardless of his feelings. KD tried to hold the Nets hostage, now its our turn.

also just for reference the harden/simmons trade happened feb 10th - the day after Woj said there wasn't even a negotiation going on.
im just not buying certainty 1 way or the other re Ayton.

The Nets roster, as it is currently constructed, is poised to compete with Milwaukee to win the Eastern Conference.
What is it about the Nets' organization which would cause Durant to ask for a trade?
We have heard nothing directly from Durant that he is requesting a trade.
Is this current "Durant requesting a trade" narrative being driven by an "off-season content-starved media" manufacturing dissent so that fans have a reason to watch ESPN/Fox Sports and new media content?

That's because Marks had no desire to trade Harden, instead he was shopping Kyrie as Bob reported and tweeted ( I'll look that up later ).
from Harden kind-of, sort-of expressing a desire to leave two days earlier to a call between team owners Joe Tsai and Josh Harris that spurred things along and finally to frantic negotiations the morning of the trade deadline.
https://nypost.com/2022/04/16/inside-48-hours-that-sent-james-harden-to-76ers-reshaped-nets/
Tsai was the one who made the call. He called Collins and those two talked it out. Than Morey and Marks started working details out. This time we don't see or hear Tsai being involved in no rumers.
I'm not trying to say you absolutely wrong. You bring interesting points. I'm just not seeing anyone saying Nets interested in Ayton since KD news broke out.

Apparently KD is upset that the Nets haven't given Kyrie a max contract.

There's absolutely no chance that Durant's trade request is a media fabrication. If KD hadn't requested a trade he would have said something as soon the rumor blew up. His silence so far says everything we need to know.

Oddly, unless KD is reunited with the Warriors (Curry-Thompson-Green-Looney), the Nets provide the best roster to compete for a championship.
Is not signing Irving to a max extension really a reason to request a trade?
Again, nobody has heard a word from KD requesting a trade. Why not just go into next season with the roster as-is?

If y'all do end up trading KD, would you prefer to stay competitive in the East next year OR would you wanna blow it all up (i.e. trade Kyrie and Simmons as well) and tank for Wembanyama?
IMO whatever you get back for KD can still allow the Nets to be a very good team next season and finish someone near atop of the East...

We don't own our picks. We need a return on KD that keeps us competitive

there's kind of no point in tanking because they dont have picks for a half decade. no matter what they do they probably won't be worse than houston next year so if there's a year to miss the playoffs this is it. but that's a lot to risk just to get a non-top 5 rookie.
i think the best path is building around Simmons and hoping to rehab him the way they did with DLo. He's obviously much more talented, and they should be able to do a better job surrounding him with similarly aged and better players than they did with DLo, (plus more draft picks) thanks to the KD trade.
i'm personally a pretty big fan of the suns deal because i think Simmons/Bridges/Ayton can possibly be a core not too unlike Smart/Tatum/Brown if the Nets do lean into being that kind of defensive identity team.
I definitely wouldn't expect 1 seed or finals year 1, but i think 45 wins is achievable and with all the picks they can build towards something if they can somehow get a shot creator with those 3. they are basically a booker away from being Phoenix but in the East, with the Kyrie trade to hopefully find someone/or more assets to get them further in that direction.

All of these reports prove how much of a **** idiot Durant is. Seriously.
Any team he is traded too will be utterly gutted because of KD's value on a 4 year deal. He likely won't be able to seriously contend on any team he gets traded to.
The stupid trade rules make it even less likely.
The Nets CLEARLY need an 25 or under all star player back in any deal. Or its not worth it for them at all.
AND the team Durant has currently Simmons/Kyrie is by far better than any team he would get traded too. Does he seriously think him, Booker and 40 year old Chris Paul are beating the Warriors and Clippers? Teams will multiple all stars and great depth.
Durant showed no **** foresight in making this trade demand. The much smarter move was to settle down with Kyrie and tell him to run it back. If the Nets were contenders and had good chemistry Kyrie wouldn't want to leave anyway.
But KD is a bitch and is always looking for an easy way out.
Now hes **** over everyone. Even if we bring him back the Nets chemistry will be so toxic we will be lucky to make the play in.
**** this snake. I hope to God he doesn't go to Phoenix and has to spend his days toiling away in Canada.
