The two-year deals makes it seem like they're not trying to use "cap space" to sign anyone next year like they said they would, but rather to trade for someone next year. Flip lots of expiring contracts and young pieces.

I don't know if they'll actually follow through with that plan, but at least it's within reason.

This is what I was thinking. I don't think they're interested in the FA class so much next year. I think what they're trying to say is, let's see what we have with these guys fully healthy, then aggressively pursue a star by any means neccessary.

I think they want next year to be the year we flip the switch and try to actively make the playoffs and start the upward trajectory towards contending for titles. I could see them trying to trade for disgruntled stars with our young players and picks.

Uninspiring, boring, only leveradge Magic had in 2022 was massive free salary.
Not only that they did nothing with it, they pretty much gave up on doing anything in 2023 without massive contracts being removed.

So... we are doing nothing until 2024. yeey. At that point, Franz's potential max will take all cap anyway.

I don't think they did anything BAD...they just didn't do anything GREAT, IMO. They kicked the can down the road for another evaluation season, or at least partial season. With all of the sudden, explosive disarray being initiated in BRK and UTA (and rippling outwards), ORL does still maintain the possibility of leapfrogging into someone else's re-directed plan (all-in win-now or total rebuild) this summer.

I believe you are incorrect about having to wait until the summer of ''24 as both of the signings are non-guaranteed next year (which is amazing to me). Additionally, Fultz' deal is only minimally guaranteed after this season and we all know TRoss is expiring...so the team could easily be active in next summer's FA shopping. More likely, IMO, we could be active in trades with teams looking to be active. I don't know what they'll do (probably nothing) but I do think they created tremendous flexibility for this season, next summer, or the next.

I'm all about a blockbuster NOW...but I can't be too critical of the flexible team-friendly nature of the deals to keep the only two 3pt shooters on the team.

We've still got a few coins in our pocket, but FA is basically a wrap (I think) for ORL...so, let's make some deals!!

The Magic do have their full MLE (3 years, 30M+), but it doesn't appear there's anyone out there worth using it on really.

I'm not really pushing for this, and it would require offloading some bodies first, but...TJ Warren was looking like an All-Star before his injury...while he was out, IND seemingly changed their timeline and he's still out there. Could he be an elite bench scorer bent on rebuilding his place in the league? Just an interesting guy to still be out there - not necessarily for us.

Trade idea:

Ross and Isaac to Indy for Hield and 23’ 1st(CLE)

Pros- 3 pt shooting, the pick will probably be a lottery pick*, frees up minutes for our young front court players

Cons- Isaacs defense will be missed, Hields contract is for 2 years**, could be redundant with Gary Harris

* idk what protections are attached
** idk if there is an option for the second year

We could definitely use the shooting/spacing for driving lanes and kick outs. Our defense wasn’t that bad without Isaac last season. It would also give us 3 firsts next year to possibly move around in the draft.

Roast away….

Hield isn't even vaguely able to defend, so you'd be resigning yourself to hamstringing the D system. 3 picks next year could prob get you a decent star in a trade, so it's worth thinking about.
