very entertaining game between Finland and Croatia, if you don't mind to witness epic embarrassing choke job. Zubac's heroics lead Croatia and it seemed it was over, 8 point lead with less than 2 minutes to go, but several missed free throws and bad defense later, Croatia found themselves with just 1 point lead and Finland having the ball. One smooth attack, Markkanen with a 3, boom, two point lead for Finland with 4 seconds left on a clock. Croatia takes time out, comes out with Bojan 3 point attempt at a buzzer to win a game... misses... but FIBA refs call a foul under the basket with 0.2 seconds to go, Zubac to shoot 2 free throws, golden opportunity to get game to OT, misses first FT, and its game. Misses second on purpose, Fins grab the ball 81-79 Finland wins.

Wow Croatia, what an embarrassing performance again. Officially out from World cup race.

Great win for Finland. They advance to the second qualification round leading their group with a 5-1 record and are in strong position to eventually qualify for the WC.

That's a shame, I was looking forward to another guaranteed win against them at the WC

Croatia has become such a joke. They used to be decent but now it seems as though all basketball tradition has been lost.
I wonder how strong Germany would be at full strength with Kleber, Lo, Wagner brothers.

I'm also interested to see how Spain transitions now that the OGs aren't playing. Their guys always have a really high basketball IQ but I'm not so sure about the talent right now.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

What is the likelihood of Victor Wembanyama playing for France? It'd be great to see him play against pretty good competition.

Chance is zero. He could only damage his reputation. He is clearly the no.1 pick in next nba draft.
He has no incentive to show anything whatsoever before the draft.

Giannis is amazing, don't get me wrong, but in FIBA competitions he can be slowed down. The major difference in the ruleset affects him quite a lot. His playstyle is a perfect fit for the NBA but it can be countered in FIBA competitions.

Do his brothers bring anything positive to the equation for Greece in fiba that they don’t in nba? I ask because you would think just having that many nba players on Greece would give them an advantage—— but of course I don’t know as well as you guys do

Thanasis can help as a hustle defensive big. He's not what one usually expects out of an NBA player (to be one of the best players on the team) but he's a pretty decent rotation player.

https://www.courtside1891.basketball/

and this for highlights

Uganda has AMAZING jerseys, I would wear that.

And WOW, Carlos Delfino is STILL playing for national team. I knew he was still playing pro in Italian league, but damn, 40 years old, still aint stopping it. And what happened to Facu this past season, he was so bad for Denver, I hope he gets another NBA shot where he gets more on ball action, cause bringing Campazzo so he would stand in a corner was always asinine idea.

Still have good players and prospects, but something is seriously wrong with their play. I wonder how the fact that they dont have Euroleague team anymore impacted sports popularity.

He's not good enough to get significant minutes. He's currently a rotation player on an average euroleague team. France has better players than that. Him joining the team just to ride the bench would be a wasted off season for him.

It will be interesting to see who is France's back up center for Eurobasket. Gobert is number one, but number two can be either Poirier or Fall. Poirier is better, but Fall is more unique and with his back to the basket game, compliments Rudy quite well. I think Wembanyama has a shot to make the team if he commits, hes the only C who is at least in theory provides shooting, and his rim protection is already 10/10.
Wembanyama played as 4 next to another center quite a bit this past season. Imagine if they put Rudy and Victor on the court at the same time, holly ****.

Yeah, but it may be seen as beneficial for his development to bring him along and have him train alongside Gobert and other NBA players/seasoned pros or maybe not if he has an offseason plan he wants to stick to.

From a French national team perspective, surely anything that helps Victor is seen as a major priority considering he is seen by a lot of ppl as one of the most talented youngsters to emerge in the last few years. It's a bit like bringing AD to Team USA b4 he's in the league. It's long term thinking.

As well he probably brings more to the table than most 3 string players they may bring for PF/C depth.

It would be great to see him in that type of environment, even if its 10-15 mins a game.

Actually there is a chance our NT staff ask him to come for at least two reasons.

First, the fact some veteran will be missing (De Colo and Batum at the very least) and there is something called the Olympics in 2024. In Paris. Victor's city basically (he's from a city which is 40ish kms away from Paris). And we also might test other youngsters before 2024 (not saying this will be an experimental team though).
The downpart for the coaching staff being that he could become a "distraction" and mess up the preparation and competition process.

The other reason being that he needs experience with the NT before 2023 since he will be in 2023's summer league for obvious reasons, then "rest" - read work on his body - before nba season pre season.

But there are other players that might pretend to be in the NT so we will see.
For my part, i hope he will be in the team, especially to start testing what we have with a potential Victor/Gobert + Luwawu (or another) frontcourt in a fiba environnement.
Knowing being in the team would not mean playing 30mn a game, as Irishniner said... But he's been used to play in our young nt categories.

Competition is in september, we will see. He should - at the very least - participate in preparation games (not saying necessary the or all friendly games, but at least the training camp) in august
