The fact that Dallas is in Texas is going to turn some free agents off because it's a very conservative state, and Dallas is thought of as particularly conservative versus some other cities in the state. Kind of a similar issue with Utah and they've long had problems with race and recruiting.

Are you sure about this....or are you just speaking in a bunch of generalizations?

Maybe Dallas is "thought of" as particularly conservative by you...but the truth is that Dallas County(not the city proper, but the county) votes well over 60% for the Democrats candidate for President (65-33 Biden over Trump in 2020)...and its been this way for the past 15-20 years.

In regards to the bolded.....thats kind of ridiculous. Have you ever been to Dallas?
Dallas is about 50% non white. Dallas is nothing like Salt Lake City.

Have you ever been to a Mavericks game?
If you go to a Mavs game....I promise you you will see an abundance of non white people at Mavs (and Cowboys) games.

There is nothing that Houston has that Dallas does not.
People that have never been to Texas are always surprised at how diverse Texas is...especially in its largest cities.

Dallas County is 66% white. Meaning 1/3 of their population is non-white.

Luka, his style of play, his superstardom, and all that it entails, just might not be very attractive to many guys. I think he's gotta hope some straight up, non-ambitious, non-spotlight seeking 3 and D players want to join him AND they can eventually land a true #2. Most NBA stars want the maximum touches/shots so they can put up stats. Playing with Luka won't allow that. But there ARE several guys that would work. AD for instance is the perfect #2 imho. JJJ, Isaac, Klay, Hayward, and Sabonis are some others. Their games would compliment Luka's and they'd be happy to play the Robin role. The problem is in DAL haste to surround him with top-shelf talent they panicked and made some bad decisions and it's going to take some time to put themselves in position to right that ship. The rest of the league better hope he never gets it though because once he is surrounded by a "Robin" like that and other 3 and D they'll be contending for championships yearly.

You use the term "non white" in your post as if everyone outside of white people share a monolithic experience.

and?
What is the point of your post?

The poster I was replying to compared Dallas to Salt Lake City.

Dallas's diversity makes it nothing like SLC.

1/3 non white is a whole hell of a lot different than Salt Lake City.

Dallas has a very large black and Hispanic population.

Whenever this topic comes up there are always a few posters that imply that Dallas is like Boston or Portland or some other really white city when nothing could be further from the truth.

I was just providing some data. I doubt there is a single player that’s chosen not to go to Dallas because it has too many white people.

The only thing I have against Dallas is the Cowboys.

Tbh for FA destinations there really the LA teams, Miami, NY teams (depends), maybe Houston or Chicago as fringe FA destinations.

That's 3-7 markets that are actually a FA draw and most of them depend on how the team is doing.

The rest of the NBA from what i've seen has a difficult time attracting prime FAs.

It’s a shame the Dallas Mavericks got a talent like Luka and made the decision to surround him with ex-Knicks. As a Knicks fan, I find this strategy a little questionable.

The reason Dallas isn’t considered more of a free agent location is the people. By people I don’t just mean the fans. It’s a nice city, but what I’ve heard from Black professionals who live there is that they aren’t treated as equals in the city. Which sucks because they have all the pieces to be an attractive location, especially financially.

What is great about Dallas, if you don't mind my asking? Let's try to answer that in the perspective of a 20 something to early 30s black male, since that's the demographic that's most abundantly found in NBA free agency.

from the Texas teams, the Mavs are probably last as a free agent destination.

No one wants to play with Luka. It's a mini Lebron situation. He is going to ball hog like crazy and if the team wins he is going to get all the credit and if it loses his teammates get all the blame.

I know I wouldn't want to play in a situation like that. Probably why Brunson left the first chance he got.

Just ask Porzingis.

My general view.

Tier 1 Cities (only 2): NY, LA, these clubs have a permanent advantage over other markets. Lakers leveraged it successfully for decades. Knicks squandered it historically. Clippers began taking advantage of it is when Ballmer took over. Nets when they mover to Brooklyn. There is a big gap between these teams and teams in the 2nd tier. And when you combine smart management with this advantage, like the Lakers did with West, you can run wild.

Tier 2: quite a few cities (not exclusive: Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, GSW, DC, Chicago, Houston): these cities either produce a lot of players or have a good business climate that allows them to spend $$$. if your city produces free agents that helps with signings/retetention. If your city has $$$ that makes it easier to front a large payroll.

Tier 3 Small Markets: these teams operate at a real disadvantage. Not attractive to free agents. Not able to spend significant $$. And when you see a sustained run of success in one of the markets like the Spurs run under Pop or the Jazz which had no titles but won a lot recognize that if they were operating in a tier 2 market or even a tier 1 market they probably achieve a lot more.

Tier 4 Relocation: Teams only enter this zone when you combine a small market with management that wants out or an indifferent fanbase that forces relocation.

Nobody goes to LA in FA, only an aging Lebron.

Ny the same, until KD and KI. Now i remember STAT.

Clips since Kawhi.

Really the majority of BIG FA chase money, so they go to franchises who offer him the max, and between them, they choose then.

Kareem, Wilt, and Shaq say "Hi".

This. I don't think there is anything wrong with Dallas. But what makes it an attractive city? The problem is, people probably know next to nothing about it outside of the show Dallas. With SF, you know you are near the ocean. You know about the tech hub and the golden gate bridge. When I think about Dallas, I think oil.

I'm sorry but Dallas is a very bland city.

The OP probably expected us to say stuff like "You're right bro! Dallas is an awesome city blah blah blah"

Not the case buddy.

Dallas isn't even the top tier city in Texas. Only people from Dallas may love Dallas but everyone I know that relocates there absolutely hates it with a passion. Boring city and nothing nearby other than Oklahoma.

Dallas is ironically also known as Oklahoma south LOL.

You guys may have a point. I've been to Dallas and liked it, but it was only for a few days, and I'm not a 20 year old millionaire.

I don't know. Its not a BAD city though. And it seems like it'd be fun to play for Cuban and with Luka/Dirk, but what do I know. These guys are playing there on road games every year so I digress.
