Should Magic pick up Isaiah Roby?
Thunder waive Isaiah Roby. He was a solid player. Good 3 pointer.

If we didn't have a glut of Forwards/Centers I'd say yes. Really bewildering that the Thunder dropped him.

1/2.2 is Low volume these days.
We’ll be better off trying to tap into Okeke To see if there is still potential left to be tapped.

He would be an updrade over M-Wagner or Bol, for example. But choices were made. And that's that.

The Thunder will probably put a bunch of short non-rebounding players around Chet so he'll look like a rebounding savant.MoMM wrote:I wonder why he got waived...

They did the same thing with Giddey last season. They surround him with a bunch of weak players so they look more dominant. They sat out Roby, SGA, and Dort and surrounded him with small G-league players.pepe1991 wrote:basketballRob wrote:The Thunder will probably put a bunch of short non-rebounding players around Chet so he'll look like a rebounding savant.MoMM wrote:I wonder why he got waived...

And yet they still won more games than Orlando

I mean, look, Magic did the same with Suggs, he just Sugged.

He was 2 # among rookies in usage ,lead orlando in usage and it was masterful tank move.

Re: Should Magic pick up Isaiah Roby?
Suggs would've got more opportunities to rack up assists and rebounds in that system. Giddey is already being overrated.. Okc was 17-37 when Giddey played and Orlando was 16-32 when Suggs played.pepe1991 wrote:basketballRob wrote:They did the same thing with Giddey last season. I like Roby, but you'd prob ably have to cut Mo Wagner to do so. I'd probably do that strictly from a basketball perspective, but not sure how that would be viewed by the other VVagner. Of course these are the dangers when you sign siblings, at some point you have to split them, assuming one is much better than the other.

Um..cut Hampton ? What's his basketball strenght? Highschool mixtape was lit, got even ESPN experts fooled he is legit, that's last relevant thing he did in basketball.
Or Okeke. Guys like him find their path to benches of C level Euroleague teams.

Giddey is 6'8" and already an elite passer, who can't shoot. I'd say he's rated appropriately. It sounds like you might be underrating tall guys that can pass.
OKC was committed to the tank last year. They were not doing Giddey any favors. I am not sure how surrounding an elite passer with terrible basketball players inflates their status.
OKC may be committed to tanking again this year, but having a guy(Giddey or Chet) taking worse shots isn't doing any favors to their reputation.
Pepe is right, what did Chet do to you? We didn't draft him.

Re: Should Magic pick up Isaiah Roby?
Regardless of whether or not Roby is better than Moe or Okeke or Hampton is irrelevant. Those guys have guaranteed contracts and the Magic aren’t gonna eat a guaranteed contract for a new 14th man.

Hampton is still all projection, but he has the size and athleticism to play in this league and he is only 21. He still needs development but guys with his traits usually take a while. Wagner on the other hand is 25 and a known commodity, there is no projection. Wagner was actually decent last year, but on a team where he could actually get minutes. I don't see them coming so easy this year, he's basically end of bench depth you that can play either big position.
Okeke, again size/position over everything else. Not sure how much PT he gets this year. A huge disappointment last year. We'll see. He's about to be 24, he's going to have to work really hard to see the court. I am guessing they pick up his 3rd year option, but the following season could be it.

Meh, I doubt we move Hampton soon. Wont bode well with the agent of our number one overall pick.

So did Roby, OKC still cut him.
Spurs cut Samanic with guaranteed contract last year.
There is no reason why NOT to pick guy, if you think guy is way more talented than your bums, just because your bums are owned some cash for rest of a year.
Yes, their contracts are guaranteed ,still doesn't change fact you can cut them, and pay them, making them UFA.
And for sake of argument, Roby is much better basketball player than both, Hampton and Okeke. But you can't break chemistry of 22-60 team
