I believe it expired on June 27th.

Yes but that was trade exception not MLE.

I believed that Mavs had taxpayer MLE and TPE. I hope I was wrong.

KP trade - Mavs basically gave away nothing for KP. If KP had a better attitude and was willing to play the pick and roll with Luka it would have been great. Just look at how well Powell and Mike Tobey (Slovenia) play the pick and roll with Luka. I would do that trade 10 out of 10 times if I only knew what I knew back then.

I don’t remember the story on Barnes, so no comment

Curry was a great shooter, but you could not play him with Luka because neither can defend. Josh Richardson was in theory the perfect fit with Luka, could guard the 2, could handle the ball, and could penetrate. The skill gap between Luka and him was too big, meaning it was meaningless to let him handle the ball while Luka was on the court and he was not a good shooter. Good idea, but did not pan out.

-Powell, is an overpay, but still a great locker room guy. Clearly, Cuban thinks a great locker room is what the Mavs need to keep Luka happy (and winning) You see that in signing Pinson.
-You pay a player like Trey Burke 3 million and you are upset? That is nothing. That is what a rookie like Josh Green is getting paid

-Brunson should have been signed, yes, but I truly don’t believe Brunson was asking for Finney-Smith money, and Cuban said no. Brunson wanted to go to New York, and we would have all done the same.

-The Mavs needed a center and I think 3 teams or more were bidding for him. Like you had no idea what happened behind the scenes. Fans like you think every free agent is standing in line to join the Mavs. There is a bidding war and there are no cheap centers.

I will stop there, but I have to ask, when was the Dragic for Powell trade proposed?

I believe that was last season when they were trying to get Dragic from Miami and they traded him to tor.

Yes. The way he responded (Twitter's dm) to a fan = funny as hell. This team is unserious.

The clothes are off! F-level offseason to build on an unlikely playoff run. Letting everyone down: Fans, players, coaches. After the series of misconduct in the organization he was merely liked/accepted by the fans - no longer loved. I think he should heavily consider stepping away from the Mavs.

I think there is a good chance the MBT did not really want to resign Brunson deep down inside. Ditto Dragic and now we see what we have and I am liking what I see much better than this time last season when we still had KP.

Title contention is more likely than it was last season. Will the warriors get KD is the only thing that would ruin my excitement. I think Wood ups his game to a new level with his being open and having Luka passing the ball.

McGee starting at C is huge that leaves him playing PF against smaller opponents so now he is working much less and able to concentrate at offense more than D so we are talking his game on offense becoming much improved. McGee is 7' 270 so we have banging power to offset the size advantages we gave up last season. Bingham is 7' 230 and Woods is 6'9" and 214. If we bring bingham along fast so he can play often then his addition will empower us to trade older vets and add younger guys and fortunately both Powell and Kleeber are on expiring contracts making their contracts valuable in trades. QUESTION if they get used in a trade how soon will we be able to resign them on minimum contracts when another team buys them out?

The wing and guard platoons are in better shape defensively speaking without Brunson playing and letting other teams score at will on us. Defense is the key to winning in the play offs so you need guys like we have at the 3 DFS and Bullock and now at the bigs we add in Woods McGee and Bingham while still having Powell Kleeber and Bertans.

Those last three guys get pushed down the totem pole and so they should thrive playing against the other teams bench players instead of being used as starters.

DFS not playing at PF will mean he is a SF starter and able to allow us to use Bullock there as a 2nd team guy instead of a starter so the 2nd team has last years starting SF playing that position which is an improvement at SF. What if we can use THJ at SF? What is that in terms of improvement? Surely THJ and Din and even Hardy will play SG and outside of THJ some PG as well.

We have a lot of great guys that can play multiple positions to create mismatches if even only on a minor level of mismatch we can use these mismatches to our advantages. That is key since those mismatches may not be as evident to the other team till they are tracked and they react. Coaching is now able to use this strategic advantage to make moves and develop better game plans.

The coaching staff has to learn what it can do so they will use the first half of the season to see what guys can do. If we win a lot that is cool but last year we did well playing in a way that started off less successful and improved the team at the TDL and saw results change for the better over night. It is a long season so maybe we invest in developing guys so that we have weapons to use later in the play offs.

By the TDL we need to decide if we can use Powell and Kleebers expiring contracts to find something that is a better fit. Now if we had not added on Woods Bingham and McGee that would not be the case, The smart thing to do is use the first half of the year to evaluate the teams talent level and see what the rookies look like.

Last year we had to play on the other teams court in the PO's and it did not seem to matter till we faced Golden State. Wiseman returning for them along with Looney is a situation that we are better prepared for now. If Bingham is able to show something he is the future at the 5 at least as a back up. If Hardy is able to eclipse Din and THJ at the 2 then we are deep as F@#$.

The lone question marks about this team that we need to learn the answers to. 1. Are the rooks going to be game changers or just guys we can develop to serve as trade chips later on? We need to develop them anyway because the need for those 2 positions is real and if injuries happen they will be counted on to play anyway.

1. Cuban paid the luxury tax for 9 years straight with dirk.

2. Dallas is 5th in payroll this year.

3. I don’t think Jalen was Cuban being cheap and more so Dallas saying he’s not worth 26 million a year.

4. It is quite literally impossible to pay the luxury tax unless you’re resigning players to big deals. This is the first year of Luka’s max so it’s also the first year they’re paying tax.

1. And he didn't pay that for 11 straight year after 2011. He went cheap, i don't blame him. But that's it.

2. And we are not a legit contender, it's the result of 10+ years of bad moves. His fault.

3./4. This is a huge huge huge contradiction.

Didn't bother to read a single word of the OP except the thread title.

If you want Cuban gone, you are not a true mavs fan.

If someone says Cuban needs to go they need to look at what he just accomplished with this team last year and realize we just went to the WCF.

Western conference will probably be historically strong this season. There is almost no weak teams. Even Portland made some surprising moves and are back in the playoff hunt. NOLA getting back Zion, LAC probably title favorites with their stacked roster then you still have Suns and even T'Wolves.. I expect even KIngs to be better than last year...Mavs lucked into Wood that's about it.

You’re the one with a contradiction. Being upset about sign dudes to contracts that are to big and then being mad when we let Jalen walk because his contract is to big.

Brunson is not worth 25 million dollars on the Dallas Mavericks. Full stop. He just isn’t that contract would have negative value here.

Sorry man but you are so confused, i don't care too much about money. I don't pay, Cuban do.
I just answered to people who are happy for some signs that we have only overpaid FA. That's it.

Nobody thinks that Brunson worths that money but he was one of the few assets we have and we lost him for nothing (i still hope in a S&T with a 3th team or something else). It's a bad move for sure.

You don't want resign player for big money and then justify Cuban's cheap because we have not just resigned players with big contract. That's fun. Very fun.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
