Also shouldn't we be adding Tatum to the list of untouchables with Simmons there?

Nah, you can add him in there instead of OG. Just positionally Siakam is closer to Barnes so they might prefer OG (who is also younger). I think it's close between the Cs offer and Raps offer depending on how one views Barnes (I personally haven't see much of him but basketball nerds drool over him).

That's correct. Tatum is also on that Designated Rookie contract.

Barnes is excellent.

If it were Barnes + Siakam that's better than our offer of Brown + White IMO.
If it were Barnes + OG + Trent then it would depend on the other Nets moves.

In any case it will be interesting. I think we are in agreement that it's hard for Miami to come up with something better than many other offers without giving up a piece they consider non-negotiable. Unless they really went crazy and did multiple trades that sent Butler and Bam out with others to bring KD and Mitchell in for example.

Miami should even be lower since they can only offer two 1sts IINM. I'd put Dubs offer higher too if I knew Wiseman would amount to something and if I didn't already know what Wiggins is outside of the Dubs ecosystem.

EDIT: I would take the haul UTA got for Gobert over that Heat offer.

Happy to see that the board has left the "JB, JT for AD" insanity in the past and it shows now with KD. It was a dark time for the board.
This guy doesn't belong in Boston.
Let the Warriors get him again, so they can troll him and his finals MVPs (lol) endlessly.
No legacy, no heart, no rings.

the thing about ranking KD trade packages is you don't really know what the Nets want. For example, you'd think it makes little sense that they'd want to bottom out and be awful since they don't have their picks. But they literally did just that the last time they didn't have their picks, they didn't seem to care. For next year at least it would make sense to be bad since it's a swap with HOU who will also be very bad.

Putting aside whether we SHOULD trade Brown, its worth noting he has only two years left on his deal. If the Nets are looking to rebuild i'm not sure he makes a ton of sense for them given that he would have absolutely no reason to stay in two years if the team is bad or mediocre.

If they dice to go complete rebuild Barnes makes a lot of sense. 3 years on rookie deal, then 3-5 more on extension. Plus he's a good player, but not good enough to ruin a tank job next year.

Then you gotta consider who has the best future picks. I'd think probably Phoenix, if you trade KD there then he's 34, Paul is like 37. So the 23' pick will be late twenties, but those 25' 27' 29' picks all could be golden if Phoenix gives up their young talent in a KD trade.

KD's struggles to maintain his efficiency on offense vs the Celtics can be explained somewhat by the defensive attention they placed on him but his defense is already suffering as well.

So while it is true that this Celtics team doesn't have a "10 year window", odds are the actual 1-5 year window that they may have with the right moves are better served without KD.

KD's struggles amounted to 26-5.8-6.3 on .528 TS%, even as the defensive attention on him allowed the Nets to score 109 ppg on .610 TS%.

If KD's production declines by 10% every season starting 2021-22 (a very pessimistic outlook considering he had one of his most productive seasons in several years), we are looking at 27 ppg, 24.5 ppg, 22 ppg for KD in the next three seasons, basically ending up with your average Jaylen Brown season in the final year of the contract.

Kyrie Irving, Seth Curry and other Nets players besides KD are legitimately good to great on offense and have proven themselves on the offensive end without KD.

You are forgetting KD's 5.3 turnovers per game and lackluster defense vs the Celtics....Notice how easy Boston scored vs the Nets compared to literally all of the other series. KD was a big part of that.

If KD was turning it over 5.3 times per game vs the Celtics that don't do a great job at forcing turnovers, imagine against a team like this years Golden State. His PER for the series was less than 14 which is pretty awful in this era for a ball dominant wing that wasn't playing much defense.

KD is a consensus top 25 player of all time but he didn't play anywhere close to that vs Boston and really hasn't been tested for an entire playoffs with a target on his back since he was wearing a Thunder jersey. He wasn't receiving much defensive attention in the playoffs with Golden State because of the Splash Brothers.

I just see even JB straight up for him as crazy and I am not huge JB fan but adding Smart plus picks would just be pure insanity for a player that won't hesitate to demand a trade on a nanosecond.

I originally voted "yes" on this question, but would now vote "no" after it has percolated in my brain for a while. Yes, Durant is an all-time great and will likely be a better player than JB for another 2 or 3 years, but I love the fact that our young core were all drafted by the C's and have grown together into a helluva unit. I would like to let them to continue the process. I'm absolutely certain they will be damn good, championship-contender good, without Durant. Would they be better with him and minus JB and another core player? Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not sure I trust Durant's heart and head.

For me, there is zero question and no comparison on talent and on-court ability between KD and JB.

I would unquestionably answer yes if it was a straight swap and you could guarantee me commitment, team harmony and at least one good playoff availability from KD with the others in the next 2 years.

It's the following that leaves me preferring to stay away from KD:
  • KD's age and recent injury history
  • KD's diva mentality and history of being a problem that causes locker room fractures
  • Boston, as currently constructed is a strong chance to contend and grab a title without KD in the next two years
  • Boston looks to have learnt from a crazy strong roster that has a diva and locker room issues in the recent past. Things are good now with us creating our own Boston culture where no-one is bigger than team. Last thing I want to do is mess with this when it's still in it's infancy. We don't have location advantage of LA, Miami or NYC, but players notice a great culture and will want to come here for it
  • Mortgaging all our assets and future in with KD when we can contend without him. If KD was 29 and we knew we'd likely be able to re-coup assets if he decided to leave then it would matter less than now. He leaves in 2 years and his age could likely mean the market has dropped significantly. These same assets would be better spent elsewhere to help us contend IMO

If we weren't a strong contender without him, if we weren't a young team building a great culture, if we were older and KD was the difference between second round and title contention then sure.

I love KD as a player, he is simply amazing and it's not specifically for JB that I don't really want us to trade for him but for many reasons.

We can't guarantee the future with or without him, but I think the immediate future without him is excellent, lower ceiling but still maybe enough clearance for a title. However the floor is definitely higher and the ceiling less likely to fall in without him. Much more likely to stay solid for years longer.

Changed my mind.

I'm out on KD since the Brogdon and Gallo additions.

Think we're ready to roll to the league's best record. Besides Brooklyn would want way too much aside from Brown, **** that.

I reserve the right to change my vote to NO in June 2023 after JB hits the title-clinching three.

Fake news. It will be a title clinching, posterizing dunk.

No. The media distraction would be catastrophic.

Brad must have learned from the kyrie fiasco. No telling when KD would change his mind about us once traded. He is so mercurial that Brad would trade for him but not for the package nets are seeking.

I voted no but I’m really on the fence. The main reasons being if you trade for KD, there’s a good chance at a championship in the next two years and that’s what it’s all about. There’s less of a chance with Brown. Plus there’s no guarantee he’ll stick around when his contract is up so if he leaves and they don’t win a title before he does, not trading for KD is a huge missed opportunity. Like a front office career defining type of missed opportunity. Also, they can likely get back someone like Curry to help offset the loss of Jaylen. I doubt any other team beats a package with JB so they could squeeze a little more out of the Nets.

The downside would be messing with team chemistry and losing a player that will (or should be) still be playing at a high level when KD retires.
