Well that's both expensive and cheap at the same time. In general, when I read "The Spurs ....", I assume it was a wise move.

So did Roby, OKC still cut him.
Spurs cut Samanic with guaranteed contract last year.
There is no reason why NOT to pick guy, if you think guy is way more talented than your bums, just because your bums are owned some cash for rest of a year.
Yes, their contracts are guaranteed ,still doesn't change fact you can cut them, and pay them, making them UFA.
And for sake of argument, Roby is much better basketball player than both, Hampton and Okeke. But you can't break chemistry of 22-60 team

For what it’s worth, OKC cut Roby because his contract was non-guaranteed and was about to become guaranteed.
They’ve eaten money before, particularly on veterans they haven’t wanted, but that isn’t what they did in this case.

The Thunder decided to pick up Roby’s 1.9 million dollar team option, which will become fully guaranteed if he is on the roster after July 3rd.
What made no sense, is fact that teams could still turn him into two -way contract, issue with OKc is fact that they have 20 players under contract ( now 19 ) and they are just Presti's mess (witch, for him is ongoing scenario for many, many years now).
Presti at one point made Roby highest payed second round pick in history
