The one thing that's true though, every time I try to convince myself the Wiz have improved enough to take a jump, I look around the Eastern Conference and shake my head at how tough it is becoming.
Celts -- added Brogdon. Defense will be nasty. Love the pick up of Trevion Wms for free.
Bucks --have Giannis, kept everyone else. Health is key.
Sixers -- added toughness in PJ Tucker and Trezl, start the year with no distractions.
Raptors -- crazy deep in 6'9"+ athletes, added Otto Porter and my guy Christian Koloko.
Hawks -- added DJ Murray, both of the lesser Holliday brothers, my other guy AJ Griffin in the draft. Have John Collins as trade bait.
Cavs -- Added Donovan Mitchell to an already tough tough team. Gave up nothing really this year. I think Agbaji will be good, Spida is better.
Bulls -- deep in solid talent, picked up my other other guy, intangibles king Dalen Terry, instant injection of attitude
Knicks -- added Brunson, finally a good PG in NYC. Perfect fit for the city.
Pacers -- Added coach Rick Carlisle. Daniel Theis. Defense will be solid. Had offense already, added Bennedict Mathurin great fit next to Haliburton. And they already had shotmaker Duarte coming up.
Heat -- hmm, added no one, lost PJ Tucker, they seem ripe to fall if one of their starters nurses an injury. Lowry is 98 years old in basketball years. But until then Bam, Jimmy and Lowry are tough for anyone. And Coach Spo seems to make anyone good.
Pistons -- added Jaden Ivey, Nerlens Noel, Alec Burk. Ton of young talent growing up together.
Hornets -- probably tanking, may lose Miles Bridges to incarceration. But they added defensive giant Mark Williams.
Magic -- a ton of young talent, at some point something clicks. Probably not yet.
Nets -- ripe to detonate. Volatile mix. Durant wants out. Kyrie is never predictable. Simmons sat out last year with hurt feelings a bad back.
I can convince myself in two directions on our team. We could click, stay healthy, play really well off each other with good chemistry, and if all is working perfectly: become a solid 8 seed. (Especially if teams start tanking early to land in the VW lotto sweepstakes).
On the other hand most of the teams that are already ahead of us have gotten significantly better in the offseason. But we can't tank. So: play in games it is.
