I’m happy signed him long term, I’ve always been a fan, but damn I’d like to see us linked to something a bit more exciting

A part of me thinks miles messing up might be the best thing for our franchise longterm. He was wanting all star money, and he's just not an all star. Not getting anything for him is absolutely devastating though.

Not sure how the deal is structured, but with cap expected to jump from 123 to 133 next year and probably again sometime in the next 4 years. Martin will be seen as a valued contract and probably a steal by year 3/4. This is cheaper than what Melton signed with Grizz a few years back.

Re: Thing #1: The Cody Martin Thread (re-signs @ 4/$32m)
At least a good news for the morning
His contract remains tradable, thats what matters. Even if he wont probably become another (better) player. As long as he provides what he can do and dont try to force things he cannot, he's a great role player.
If an extension in the 14/16 M/y on 4 years for PJ could be done, that would be solid considering the initial mess. And that would mean Hornets have options (and first, current assets to develop..) in 2023, not necessary a full tank.

Cody Martin is the kind of player you must have on winning, championship teams. Call him a glue guy, key bench performer, whatever…if he can continue to progress on all the elements he will be vital. I think the $ and length are super for us.
Sadly the idiot Miles has robbed us of our more immediate future so who knows how our team trajectory will turn out. But Cody is a good keeper for sure.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

nothing to dislike about that contract from the team's point of view. Cody Martin is through and through an organizational success story. here's to more like him in the coming seasons.

Re: Thing #1: The Cody Martin Thread (re-signs @ 4/$32m)
An important thing to keep in mind is that we've never extended a 2nd round pick before. The fact that we've now done that (and also had another team pay Graham) is huge for how agents representing players will view this organization. They will want to steer guys taken in the 2nd to us. And that inclination will only get stronger once some other team likely gives McDaniels a contract next summer. That will be three 2nd round picks extended in back to back to back seasons.
Thor, Lewis, and McGowens should all be pretty damn motivated. We just need to keep giving them chances (should be non-negotiable) when they're ready and able to contribute.

Cody is out 6 weeks. Arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Went from quad soreness to "hey let's just go ahead and have this procedure done and get ready for next season" awfully quick.

It really does feel like we’re embracing the tank.

I’m not convinced yet, it’s still early and Lamelo has to come back soon surely?

Who knows. His sprained ankle may suddenly become a broken neck out for 6 months.

Then we will historically be the first team investigated and punished for tanking and lose our 1st round picks.
We can’t have nice things

We could always reference Jonathan Isaac. He's had a torn acl since 1985
