Oh, it can happen. Unless Silver hands down a year-long ban, or the league quietly comes to a gentleman's agreement to do that without the official press release, Miles will be on a roster at some point this season.

He has quite a few advantages working in his favor. He's rich and has no prior history so he has a good shot at not doing any time. Not doing jail time helps his chances of reducing the ban to something punitive (25-50 games) but not season ending. He's a Klutch client so that will be a big help unless they drop him. They'll get him on the Lakers for the minimum for their playoff push at absolute worst.

The NBA has glossed over all sorts of criminality when it suits them, and their commitment to social justice is in all reality a mile wide but an inch deep. The public has the memory of a goldfish, in 8 months this will not be on their radar unless reminded. If Miles Bridges is in LA this May and it looks like the league is on a collision course with a Lakers/Celtics Finals featuring Lebron you can bet your ass his 'redemption' and 'maturation' will be mentioned during broadcasts.

Society is just sick like that, especially when giant egos are in competition as is the case in all of pro sports. At this point whether Miles plays or not comes down whether the league smacks him with a season-long ban imo. Ensuring this doesn't all get forgotten in nine months is also kinda why I'd rather the Hornets keep him on the QO. In a **** up way it's the best insurance against an unscrupulous contender saving his ass if the league doesn't have the guts to make a hard stand on this case.

You still didn't answer my question. Who has ever had a redemption story from domestic violence?

Lance Stephenson throwing his gf down a flight of stairs and bashed her head against the railing then becoming a fan favorite in Indiana is one memorable example I can recall. Fans still consider him crazy I suppose, but not because of that.

It's not as if we have a ton of these cases to compare, but nearly all the examples we do have didn't end in those players being blackballed from society or eternally despised. Ray Rice is the exception that proves the rule, can you think of any other athlete who has committed DV and had it end their career?

Greg Hardy never played another down.

For the Panthers, maybe.

He got signed by Dallas the next season and started 12 games.

If you have enough discipline to become a professional athlete; you have enough discipline to NOT almost kill your wife with your hands.

Speaking personally my father use to be an alcoholic abusive man to my mother. He eventually found Jesus and quit drinking. I'll never forget those nights as a kid though, which is why that video of his kid brought back horrific memories that I had to have a lot of therapy over. I've forgiven my father over the years so I'm sure I can forgive someone ill never meet. But for now he can go **** himself.

Qualifying offers
For a player to become a restricted free agent, his team must submit a qualifying offer to the player between the day after the last game of the NBA Finals and June 29.

The qualifying offer is a standing offer for a one-year guaranteed deal, which becomes a regular contact if the player decides to sign it. This ensures that the team does not gain the right of first refusal without offering a contract themselves.

If a player is coming off a regular (non-Two-Way deal), he may qualify for a higher or lower qualifying offer provided he met (or did not meet) the “starter criteria” the previous season — or the average of the previous two seasons. Starter criteria are based on starting at least 41 games or playing at least 2,000 minutes in the regular season.

Qualifying offers expire on Oct. 1, but can be extended. However, the extension of a qualifying offer cannot go past March 1. If the deadline passes and the qualifying offer is neither withdrawn nor accepted, the player continues to be a restricted free agent. Teams and players are free to negotiate a new contract after the qualifying offer expires as the deadline only affects the player’s ability to accept his qualifying offer.

Players can always accept the qualifying offer and play the following season under its terms. This is sometimes done to ensure unrestricted free agency in the following offseason.

Read on Twitter

Bobby Marks says 7/13 is the deadline to revoke the QO without the player's permission. He thinks we'll leave it open. He also thinks there's a chance Miles never plays in the league again.

Miles is in his prime and is a very good player. This isn't like Ray Rice who was completely done averaging 3 yards a carry when he maliciously knocked that woman out. He'll definitely play again. Question is just for who

Pull the QO. He's just another thug that should be behind bars.

Jake Fischer on Miles Bridges: The only thing I’ll say about the qualifying offer… I know it hasn’t happened yet. I have that on solid grounds. And everyone I’ve talked to around the league, no one expects them to pull it either. 5 hours ago – via Spotify

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Miles playing this season if he avoids jail time and certainly if charges aren’t pressed or he avoids conviction. There’s still a lot of ways for this to play out and everyone involved has to see where the chips fall before making any moves. The biggest issue now is even in the best case scenario, I don’t think the fans will be welcoming of him this season. I’d like to see the NBA and Union come up with a solution that doesn’t screw us over.

Winning cures everything. No matter how bad the crime is. Unfortunately

So say Beater signs the QO. We are stuck with him for one year, whether he plays or not. I suppose the league will suspend him some amount of games, but if he’s convicted and doing time, it won’t change the suspension. Essentially we will be paying him to serve 6 months (or less), and get nothing for it. No way you bring a felon back in the season after he’s done time for busting up his wife in front of their kids. At the end of the one year contract he’s a free agent, so we lose him anyway. Why go through that angst?

Miles will go all apology tour at the appropriate time, take classes and say he’s a changed man, PR everything to get a make good deal with the Lakers or another big market team.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Controversial Take, not saying this is even my opinion. Just a 360 degree view of situation.

What if, and hear me out here. TMZ doesn't have the full story? Has that ever happened before?
Or the thousands of fans who have already decided whether innocent or guilty? don't know as much as lets say... the Hornets?
I am sure Hornets have done far more digging into the event then anyone on here and the fact they didn't immediately cut him. What if there is more we don't know?

Again, not saying this is my feelings. Just reading tea leaves.

After all it would not be the first time someone lied... in the last month. Did anyone watch Amber Heard trial? She basically was putting makeup on trying to show Depp was assaulting her. Why? Cash grab. Humiliation. Tarnish his reputation.

Once again, not saying I know or feel a certain way. Just think there has to be a 10% chance that it may not appear the way it seems. And if it truly is 10% chance then he should be innocent until proven guilty and not the other way around. That is how the system is supposed to operate.

My honest opinion is not in favor of Miles right now, but I also am fine holding off final judgement until more details come out. It does us essentially no good to cut him right now if we have no secondary plan of action.

Return to Charlotte Hornets
