Re: Wisconsin Badgers Thread
Miami getting left in the dust huh. I was surprised back when Mizzou was added that FSU wasn't their target instead, seemed a perfect fit. Remember FSU was still good back then, so I assumed it was not wanting to add another major power to compete against. Turns out it was that ACC contract thing mentioned a few posts back. If those 4 are added the SEC at least has a normal regional foothold. Big 12 and Big 10 will be so weird.
IDK this seems like its trending to 3 mega conferences. Which kind of seems dumb to me to not have it be 4.

I could see Florida having a big problem with adding Miami to the SEC.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Thread
At this point make a 4th mega conference using the best remaining teams that aren't in the Big 10, Big 12 and SEC.

Isaac Gard, son of Greg Gard, will be a walk-on for the Badger men's basketball team.

Him and Izzo's kid should be forced to play 25 mins in a game vs each other. Match them up so it's fair.

I kinda ran the gamut of opinions on the GusBus through the whole recruiting process, but while this stuff seems like it wouldn't work with Kofi Cockburn trying to swat your layup...actually it might - he reminds me so much of Cameron Krutwig but might have better range on his shot
(Also the 20 second mark is a thing of beauty)

LOL… Bohiem at Syracuse has a kid on his team. Didn’t Coach K have a nephew? There should be a special “nepotism” roster spot.

Buddy Boeheim was pretty **** legit, though. I've never seen Gard's kid play but I am pretty sure he is not even sniffing that level.
Ugh, I don't like Gard. He hasn't earned nepotism roster spots.

That's what everybody says about Gard but the team consistently outplays expectations. Willing to give the benefit of the doubt here.imo

The 14th roster spot on any college roster is reserved either for a guy of D3 caliber that would rather be a practice dummy for a major conference team than actually play OR a coach or donor's son (Carter Higginbottom, anyone?)
I am actually stunned that anyone gives a ****.
Boeheim's kids were good. And therefore they played!
Gard's kid will be a practice body and wave a towel somewhere at a skill level between the level of Jordan Smith, JD Wise, Dan Fahey, or Carter Higginbottom.
Do you want Gard to personally apologize to some kid at Waukesha West that is 2nd team All-Conference that was considering Oshkosh or Minnesota-Duluth that could've taken this roster spot?

The verdict is also out on Coach K. Guys that he recruited like Laettner, Zion, Brand, Maggette, etc. did all of the work.

I really don't care. Please, no more Higginbottom. It was just an opportunity to express my 'meh' towards Gard. Everything is "fine."

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Thread
I think it is bad optics, for a lot of reasons.
Kerb Hohl’s take is a little extremist. The only thing
this program does historically well is develop guys. So yeah, Id rather use that spot on a developmental guy.
It doesn’t really matter, Im not writing a letter to the chancellor or anything. Its certainly within the realm of a reasonable thing to scoff at.

Look at any major college roster in the country. They have 2-3 guys on their bench that are there for GPA and practice that probably would struggle to get minutes on most D2 teams. This includes bluebloods.
Roster spots 1-7 are for rotation guys
Roster spots 7-10 is for depth/scholarship freshmen that aren't ready
Roster spots 11-13 are for developmental guys (i.e. walk-ons that have a small chance of becoming a contributor (like Showalter))
Roster spots 14 and 15 are for towel-waving assistant coaches.
Nobody that will consider sniffing minutes in the Big 10 are going to sign up to be the 14th man on Wisconsin or Illinois or Michigan State to be a "developmental guy"

Do you think Brian Long and Sam Malone were ever thinking about developing getting minutes at Kentucky? I'm sure Brian Long at 5'9" 155 as a senior was just an injury away from starting against Tennessee in an SEC game.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Thread
Kerb is 100% right here. There is 2-3 walk ons like this on every team. They're D3 players that choose to sit the bench and experience big time bball while getting to go to larger more prestigious universities for their education. Basic example, play at UW Oshkosh, or sit the bench at UW. UW is likely more fun and a cool life experience even though you're not playing, and you get a UW degree instead of Oshkosh along with all the connections made through the program that could help you later in life, business etc.
