2023 Free Agents as of 7/7 - from alphatron10 GB
As of the writing of this, there are currently 100+ players set to be unrestricted free agents next summer. Now that will undoubtedly change with extensions and the like, but I was wondering who the most intriguing free agent next summer is, be it UFAs, RFAs, or players with POs. This is the list of next summer's free agents, and I bolded the TOs of 1st round rookies with options that will be exercised/declined before the season starts. Let me know who you think is the most intriguing or who has the most to prove at this point, etc.
UFA- Unrestricted Free Agent- 100/258
RFA- Restricted Free Agent- 59/258
TO- Team Option- 78/258
PO- Player Option- 21/258
ETO- Early Termination Option- 0/258

Re: 2023 Free Agents as of 7/7 - from alphatron10 GB
Wiggins, Jae Crowder, Seth Curry
Its looking real bad for next year - not many big name players available as UFAs.
I also saw that players like Larry Nance Jr and CJ on the PELS were talking extensions, so many RFA, TO, PO players will be locked up by next year.

Dillon brooks, Otto Porter, and maybe hachimura are the only ones I'd really be interested in

Re: 2023 Free Agents as of 7/7 - from alphatron10 GB
Keldon Johnson or Khris Middleton. Keldon is a RFA so would have to overpay to poach him. Middleton back with the Pistons is something that intrigues me. He has a TO which if healthy he certainly opts out of to be a UFA. Milwaukee would have FBR's but are smaller market and their window might be seen as closing.

I want PJ Washington. I think he still has potential to be unlocked but I was more confident before the whole bridges thing. With bridges off their books they can easily resign him and not be in tax territory

Middleton will be 32 years old entering the 23-24 season. Considering that, what would your offer to him look like?

I just like the huge list of TOs for Detroit. Control.

Either trading for someone or kicking it to the next offseason again. Free agency the nut worst spot for us to acquire talent.

Really don't know what we need to target until we see how this year goes. Duren, Ivey, Bagley, and to a degree even Stewart are question marks as to what type of improvement we will see... Even Bey could end up being a bench player for us if his defense and 3 point percentage don't improve. Plus we might see another trade. PF wasn't really a need in FA but became a need after we traded Grant. It's certainly possible/likely we'll make another trade within the next 11 months, changing/shifting roster needs again. Seems crazy to be looking at 2023 free agents when we haven't even played our first summer league game of 2022. We're like 360 days away from free agency.

Full Transparency: I haven't really thought this through at all so this is bound to be nonsense.
Whoever the Warriors can't retain maybe?
Someone out of Poole, Wiggins, or Wiseman hopefully (they can't resign them all can they?). Not very interested in Draymond although I fear it's most likely he would be the odd man out?
It's way too early to tell though...

Grant Williams from Boston would be a great get. 41% from 3, just 23 years old right now, a very good defender, and he's a big part of why they just made the Finals. I'd take him over Jerami Grant for four years $100 million.
Gary Trent Jr Also just 23 currently and a good defender. Could be our starting SF if Bey slides to PF.
Those are my top two realistic guys to get off the list that fit in age wise. Feels like Poole will be out of reach.

They can and will resign all of them. They are multi-time luxury tax repeater payers that make millions for each game because of Silicon Valley.

Re: 2023 Free Agents as of 7/7 - from alphatron10 GB
The other interesting thing from looking at the Pistons FA list, is that these are the guys on our roster for 23-24
Stewart/Duren
Bagley
Bey/Livers
Ivey
Cade
Just those 7 plus our 2023 lottery pick if we want. Could keep Hayes for $7.5 million, but the reality is if we have 8 rotation players already and $60+ million to spend in Free Agency.... we should just work on filling out our 10 man rotation. Those 7 plus a lottery pick plus two FA signings get us to our 10. Then a vet min or two and a few younger reclaimation projects or 2nd rounders to finish out the 15 man roster.... sink all the money into the top 10 guys.

Yep, not even worried about making a splash this or next offseason's free agency. It's always been overrated to an extent, and I'd rather just keep developing what we have. If Cade is as good as we all think he is, he'll drag this team to relevancy either way and we only need to fill in the gaps from there on out
Going on Year 2 of the Cade era

Are you saying you'd be willing to pay Williams $100 million over 4 and would prefer that Jerami Grant? Or you'd prefer getting Williams at his dollar figure to paying Jerami $100 million over 4?bstein14 wrote:Grant Williams from Boston would be a great get. 41% from 3, just 23 years old right now, a very good defender, and he's a big part of why they just made the Finals. Are you expecting him to be in the LeBron/Luka tier or something?DBC10 wrote:buzzkilloton wrote:Either trading for someone or kicking it to the next offseason again. Free agency the nut worst spot for us to acquire talent.

I'm saying I'd rather sign Grant at his market rate over extending Jerami Grant for 4 years $100+ million... which reportedly was a consideration and something he wanted. (4 years $112 million). I don't think Williams is anywhere near a $100 million player but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an above MLE offer. Maybe 4 years $60 million. Hard to say for sure until we see how his fourth year goes.

Kristaps Porzingis would fit perfectly with this team. Would be expensive and he would need to opt-out but it’s the Wizards and anything could happen. Only turns 27 in August.
