Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
I think the next tool he needs to add to his bag really is a step back. He’s a very north/south player and doesn’t have a lot of wiggle to his game. If he can weaponize his shot better, he’ll become a very difficult player to guard. He got the shooting efficiency & finishing ability, now he just needs to be a more dangerous shooter off the dribble to generate the gravity needed to manipulate his defender.

IMO it's about his being able to generate contact on the drive and thus to get to the line at an elite level. Part of that is getting respect around the league and getting refs to the point where they anticipate him getting fouled. i remember well the season when Derrick Rose went from gyrating around contact to leaning into it to finally starting to get the calls. Huge difference. 'Cause then you put the ball in the guy's hands at closing time and feel pretty good that even if he can't make a shot, he'll get to the line. Not just once but many times.

Last season he would get vexed once when he was ran off the three point and also unable to get in the paint.
If (when) he develops a 12-15 ft. pull up jumper to go along with the floater and elite finishing skills, he'll be unguardable. That's the only thing standing between him and elite closer status.

Elbow jumper and some go to, change of direction, moves. He really has no bag but he's so fast that most of the time it doesn't matter.

Agree he needs a little more than just a middie when teams starts putting better longer defenders on him he will have to be able to create once they take away the shot or drive. Remember hes only 6"2 so adding more counters , advance ball handling to set him up for his shot should take him to the next level especially as the soon to be 2nd option.

From the clips his trainer posts on IG, it seems like Maxey is working hard on dribble counters and 3s off the dribble. I absolutely cannot wait to see what he looks like this season.

With Mitchell likely off the table and the odds of landing Durant low, it’s on this guy to take a leap next season. Here’s to hoping he can be our closer!
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Barlow/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

Great article about Cassel relationship with Maxey. He has Kobe-like workethics. It seems HArden is training a lot with MAxey in this offseason too. League is ****.

The kid just gets it.
“The city of Philadelphia is such a blue-collar city and everybody here that goes to games or that I see around town, they work extremely hard for what they have — extremely hard for what they have. So when you work hard for what you have, you really cherish it, and I feel like I really believe that because I worked extremely hard to get where I am today. Nothing was given to them, nothing was given to me. I went out and took everything I got. I didn’t have any handouts. I went to a public school, I went to Kentucky. When I was in eighth grade, I made a list of goals. I told people I was going to go to Kentucky, I told people I was going to be a McDonald’s All-American, and that I was going to be a first-round pick. When you tell people that in the eighth grade, they’re looking at you like you’re crazy.”

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Well, after two preseason games I think it’s time to discuss Maxey as the number one option on this team. Harden focuses on running the offense and distributing, and Embiid focuses on anchoring the defense and rebounding. Having an offense that’s less reliant on foul grifting would be helpful come the playoffs.
Maxey 25 PPG 5 AST 4 REB
Embiid 22 PPG 14 REB 3 BLK
Harden 19 PPG 13 AST 6 REB
Maxey 25 PPG 5 AST 4 REB
Embiid 22 PPG 14 REB 3 BLK
Harden 19 PPG 13 AST 6 REB

It’s hard not to get excited. This young buck is gonna be good. The strides he has made have been fantastic. A lot of teams are going to regret not taking him earlier in the draft.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
I think Maxey may end as the 3rd best player of his draft, even surpassing Haliburton in the future.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
It's getting harder and harder to not believe the shooting is real. I've always felt last year was a little bit of an illusion because there's no way he can shoot that kind of percentage from deep again but he's come out in two games and looks to be right there or improved.
He's got a chance to be a top 25 player in the league and that shocks me.
