Hitzges Ranger Ideas

Post#1 » by catalyst » Wed Oct 3, 2007 3:45 pm

Uncle Norm is talking about the rangers shopping list. Here is who he wants the rangers to sign

1. Fukidomi (sp) LH cf
2. Keith Foulke
3. Freddie Garcia
4. Jon Lieber
5. Matt Stairs
6. Eric Hinske
7. He mentioned another BP pitcher, but I did not hear who it was.

Do these guys make sense, and would they have enough left from any of them to make a difference.

foulke is done for he tried to come back and failed miserably.

the only way we go after garcia is if we trade padilla (which seems to be a pretty big possibility.) lieber's been on the 60 day dl since june and is always battling with injury problems. Id give him a minor league deal w/the shot at being a 5th starter or long reliever. garcia's been hurt all year too and who knows if he'll be healthy to go for the season.

stairs surprised people and i liked him in his time here. i dont know what position he'd play here. not sure if he'd leave canada since he is canadian and he performed well there.

hinske sucks plain and simple, the only redeeming quality he has is he can walk (some)

ive heard of fukudome but have heard he's more of a corner outfield (might be able to play the infield too, cant remember) but im sure he's the real deal.

the guy id want to go after is adam dunn, the reds can either pick up his option for next year or buy him out for 5 million, if he's a free agen thats my #1 guy, great obp and power guy. he's what jason botts aspires to be (and they're only a year apart) he's not that great defensively but could play either LF, 1b or DH.

if not him id go after bonds. he might not be a popular candidate among people here but he'd garner headlines put people in the stands and is still the top offensive threat in the game today.

as for the CF position either go with what you got or go after aaron rowand or mike cameron. cameron is just as productive as hunter and could fill as a stopgap for someone to come in for him in a year or 2. of the 4 big CF's my order would be:

1. Mike Cameron
2. Aaron Rowand (he's cheaper then the other 2)
3. Andruw Jones
4. Torii Hunter

id bring back vazquez as a utility guy, resign wilkerson to play lefties (and maybe some righties) maybe resign mike wood. still need to look at the rest of our potential free agents.

all in all i say lay low b/c the free agent class is pretty ****, next year offers a little more but im sure the top guys will get resigned but who knows, Santanna i believe is slated to be a F/A among people like Tex.

Norm was attempting to keep rangers in the $70 mm range. I think his idea was the same as with gagne. Sign them, and potentially trade them at the deadline. If these guys all suck, then let a young player take the spots and grow up. This is from a ranger fan who was in Atlanta in the early 90's and saw the development and massive success of Braves pitchers Glavine, Smoltz, Avery, Wohlers, Stanton, etc. IFs Blauser, Lemke, Javy Lopez, etc. OFs klesko, Chipper, Andruw.

Rnagers need to take the philosophy of building from the minors and trading or signing the final pieces.

1. Yes,heard he could be a real dominant player but the question for how long? I believe I heard he was in his late 20's early 30's.
2. No done.
3. ? His is shoulder ok?
4. No. The Rangers have plenty of #5 starter candidates.
5. Doubt he leaves Canada
6. ? Career .255 hitter how much? Anything over $5mil pass
