Blazers drafted Sharpe and recently acquired Jerami Grant, and Simons looks like he could be a future all star. Let's see what they can put together around Dame.

Reminds me of Aaron Rodgers' contract. Both players take all of that money then will complain they don't have enough talent around them.

How many time did a team offer a 2 year extension to a player who had 3 years left? I didn't even know you could do that.

It seems premature. Why not just wait two year? What's the downside for the Blazers?

They could've seen that without the extension.

I’m all for sticking it out with the team and trying to win a championship in Portland. But you can’t go around and moan anymore about the franchise not being able to build a team around you. You are taking a huge portion of the salary cap with this extension. If you really wanted to win championshis, you’ll atleast take a small hit on your extension so the team has salary cap space to bring in another star etc.

Maybe management thinks having a star locked in long term will help the value of the team they claim is not for sale?

He's probably the first because there's no reason to do it.

Has he ever really complained about that? We have never directly heard Lillard lament that his Blazers are not a top 5 team, **** he didn't put up any fuss when LMA left and he lost the best version of the team he ever had.

I think there are two things going on here that people are ignoring.

#1.) The Blazers are extremely likely to be sold in the next 3 or so years, securing the most popular player the Blazers have ever had makes a lot of sense. **** his value to the team is probably higher than any contract we could ever give him.

#2.) Legacy, the Blazers want to put up his jersey and say "Lillard the life-long Blazer" we didn't get that with Walton, Drexler, or any other noteworthy Blazer. **** I would not be surprised to see a Lillard statue at some point once he retires grace the Moda Center.

When he has only ever had a true all-star level talent throughout his first 3 years on the team when he was nowhere near his prime any playoff run would be impressive. Again this narrative that every player is on the same level of team is a **** joke, many players have either been FAR luckier with having a good team around them or ran to join super teams. Dame had neither come true, his best team was likely the LMA teams but LMA took off well before Dame could even get close to his prime.

**** with our luck on injuries in general I have a feeling the Blazers could have pulled down 3 or more championships over their entire history if they had just a bit more luck. Not bad for a small market team that never draws the attention of big name free agents.

WTF are the Blazers doing? Nobody is worth that much at age 35/36...

is 32nd birthday is next week, so that means it breaks down like this:

Current contract:

2022-23: $42.5M Age 32

2023-24: $45.6M Age 33

2024-25: $48.8M Age 34

Extension:

2025-26: $58.5M Age 35

2026-27: $63.3M (player option) Age 36

All very true. What is also true, and the point I was making, is that putting a statue of Dame in front of Moda is absolutely nonsensical and a VERY Blazer thing to do.

The Blazers have 3 years before it kicks in? Why are people talking like this cost them any chance of picking up other players in the meantime? And why would this mean he's stuck there? He's just as likely to ask for a trade with 3 years or 5 years.

Loyalty my azz. What help is he going to get now ?

Yep. “Loyalty” but get paid as much as possible and complain when they can’t surround you with anything while occupying half the cap.

I’d rather have an aging star not be loyal this way and move on.

What do you consider a small hit? He would need to take likely more than a 50% paycut for the team to have cap room in those seasons to add players, and more if he wants those players to be good.

Agree with everyone in here, don't know about all of this 200-300m extensions, billonaires businessmen are cracked, they should just hire us realgmers to manage their teams
