Chi fans happy-Lillard won't ask for a trade yet-hope they sneak into the playoffs this year and we get a #15-18 pick

Lol Blazers, Lillard's existing supermax expires in 2025, there was absolutely zero pressure for them to extend him another two years now.

The absolute disconnect between Dame and Trailblazer fans is so insane.

I don't understand why teams do this.

Just because you can pay someone, doesn't mean you have to.

Just seems unnecessary.

Already contracted for 3 seasons and showing clear signs of declining.

What is the worst thing that could happen to the Blazers if they just take some time to assess his form before giving out this deal?

Would it really be the worst thing if he demanded a trade?

What are the NBA teams plans, if the next TV Deal isn't as big as they expect? Contracts like these would probably prevent them from building a good roster

I mean he could get injured and then they're footing the bill. What about a westbrookian/iversonian dropoff? I don't think not giving him the 120 million until later is much of a risk. I guess you have the risk of another team giving him 120 mil for a few seasons of basketball.

More like 36.

He still had about 3 years left on his current deal — this extension brings his total to 5 years left.

My first thought when I read the title was "Well, that's a lot of money. But at least it's a short contract.

Then I read your comment.

Second thought was "Sheeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiit...."

Oshley must be proud of his legacy..

Blazers fans deserve better. But i dont get the numbers, the amount of 107M/2 years - which is already silly - was rumored in the end of 2021 ?

It seems 95% of basketball fans don't get that this is a business first huh

Owners care about money mostly.

Fans only care about rangz.

In my opinion this is also detrimential to team chemistry. The amount of envy and hatred inflicted by the salary disparity is just insane.

how did you came up with conclusion that dame is showing "clear signs" of declining

smart thing would be to wait and see how he does fully healthy before making such assertion, cause you might look like an idiot

Dame set career lows for games played, FG%, FT%, Steals and dipped in FG%. He's currently 31 and coming off the first significant injury of his career. I wouldn't say "clear signs", but there is some cause for concern. He will also be about 34 when that contract comes into effect. I suspect Portland caught the Albatross on this one.

How does his salary jump from 49 to 59? Is that even possible?

I hate this though.

This narrative is false, in fact if you start simons and build just a competitive team there wouldnt be that big a difference in the revenue portland brings in
