My most optimistic take is that Deni makes a big leap this offseason after being healthy in the summer, and comes back and plays like Gordon Hayward with better defense. If he learns to shoot, he will essentially become above-average for his position in nearly every facet of the game: shooting, ball-handling, passing, defense, rebounding - you name it.

Reasons for optimism:

Davis could be a legit star lead guard that’s ready from day 1. Avdija looks like he’s ready to make a big leap, could become an all star level impact player. Porzingis was a top player in the league in his short stint with the Wiz last year. Should have quality/consistent PG play all year long. Gafford could get back to being a true impact backup C in a reduced role.

Reasons for skepticism:

Mediocre coaching at best. Still deploy 48 minutes of mediocre play at the 4 position with Rui&Kuzma, and the 4 position is the most important swing position in the game. Porzingis will probably miss a lot of time. Barton will probably play 2000+minutes and block younger players and be a huge net negative player. Beal might still have a ridiculously large ego and complain to the refs and play selfishly and not care all that much about winning, just put his head down and launch awful shots all game and try to average 30 again.

Zach sounds as positive as one can be realistically about the team but comes to same conclusion we all do, stuck in the middle class at best. Has love for Kuz as well.

Will be interesting if next CBA gives teams that resign their homegrown players a salary cap break.

Yeah, my solution is that the repeater tax shouldn't penalize a team that is re-signing its own draft picks.

I had high hopes for Smith when he came out of NC State. But he can’t shoot or defend. Both Morris and Wright are better than him.

Hope Smith finds a home -- he did turn it around somewhat in Portland last season. But, we don't need him.

In fact, PG -- which was a team weakness -- is now a team strength. Both Morris & Wright are very, very good players.
