It wouldn’t surprise me at this point if they were thinking about it.

They'd be negligent if they weren't. There's still a better chance Kyrie, even at his dumbest, is still more valuable than the garbage they're currently being offered.

Brooklyn still has the option to John Wall him if things don't work out.

No he’s not. If the choices are keep assets and roll with what we got or sell the farm for Kyrie, I would much rather choose the former. When people tell you who they are, believe them. Kyrie’s not playing for the Nets without a max deal, and whoever gives him his next max extension will regret it.

I had worried the Lakers were going to end up being those suckers, but they may yet get bailed out of their stupidity by the Nets.

Don't get me wrong, my disdain for Kyrie's professionalism is extreme. I think him going full moron is a great possibility. And giving him a max deal is madness. Most likely he is at LA/DAL stage Rodman, who was forced into retirement.

But if I'm the Nets I still think my best option is bring him back, tell him he'll get minutes and chance to audition for max. If he behaves treat him as normal. But warn him any stupidity and he gets Walled for the season.

That hits me as a better deal than the Westbrook style packages, which have a 0% chance of providing value.

Kyrie once threatened to have surgery and sit out the season for the Cavs if he didn’t get traded.

He cost himself nearly 15 million last year over a vaccine.

He’s not auditioning for anything. If the Nets are bringing Kyrie back, they better be ready to max him, otherwise this is going to be a disaster. Paying him 36 million to sit on the bench is absolutely not a better deal than paying WB 47 million to sit on the bench and get draft compensation.

Now, they may get a championship out of this year if they max Kyrie, so it may be worth the gamble. But mark my words, the Nets aren’t going to be able to leverage this guy into doing what they want.

My view though is you can cut off the disaster before it starts. Once he goes moron just announced he's been John Walled and will never play again for the Nets.

The Nets are in a bad spot. But John Walling Kyrie isn't markedly worse than their current situation.

Marks to Masai: "Hi Masai, what's your interest level in trading for KD?"
Masai: "Hi Sean, with respect, I don't think there's a deal there."
Pelinka: "Hey Sean, did you get my messages about Kyrie?"
Marks: "I'm sorry... Who are you?"

I think trades happen during periods of communication. I don't think there is anything special about summer league conversations but conversation taking place means it is at least possible. When parties aren't talking that means nothing happens.

Per Stein Nets want picks from the Lakers.

Is that a dealbreaker or what?

The Lakers gave up a 1st to get Dennis freaking Schroder in 2020. If they don't do it for Kyrie I'll lose my mind.

G - Bradley | Caruso

I think the Lakers unprotected 2027 1st alone is a goldmine. That's almost certainly a top 5 pick.

I think the Spurs (or whoever is taking 47m in dead money for Westbrook) need two future 1sts. Nobody is taking Westbrook for a single FRP. Toss them one of the Suns FRPs, and maybe that would work.

Nobody but the Lakers are going to offer anything of value as that's the only team he wants to play for. There's zero indication that MIA wants to trade for Kyrie.

I’ve heard this discussed on at least two separate summer league broadcasts. It seems pretty generally accepted that quite a bit of business gets done at these games. It’s actually kind of silly to think two GMs known to be engaging in trade discussions wouldn’t be talking about it when they run into each other.
