Sudden death in real NBA games (?)

Post#1 » by SUPERVILLAIN » Sun Jul 10, 2022 3:24 pm

It came down to sudden death in double OT during the Kings-Magic game last night. Do you want to see it in real NBA games?

Another one.

Hell no. Who'd want to see a playoff game decided after one possession.

Given how few overtimes games there are, and how very few double and triple overtime games there are.... changing it to sudden death would be a completely unnecessary change to make. Its already very sickening how many unnecessary changes we've seen in the Silver era :x

This would obviously only be a Regular Season thing and changed back for the Playoffs just like Hockey.

they're already decided on one possession all the time though, on game winning shot attempts at the end of games. what's the difference?

It would turn into a foul/free throw fest

This rule would make every team to sign one 7’5 C to their roster just to win that OT ball for the first posession..stupid rule

Bruh, you can’t be serious with this analogy lol. Yeah, games come down to the wire all the time. But there’s a HUGE difference between that, and after 48 min of battle, a team winning the tip and hitting a single shot, or even worse a single FT, without the other team even possessing the ball.

You lose on a buzzer beater? Cool. You lose on the first possession of OT on a single made FT? Lame as hell. It’d be a completely unfulfilling way to end a game, and the poll results show this.

No. That would be dumb. And besides its not like there are going to be ties in the NBA.

I don't like it but it's cool as an exhibition game gimmick

I wouldn't mind seeing the Elam Ending be used in OT (and make the target 8 or 10 or something), but I'm not all that passionate about it either.

We saw glimpses of it in the first ELAM ending in the All-Star game. The defense was entertaining, enough for them to retry it the next year, but it ended with FTs so it probably was over hyped.
Sam Hinkie gets removed from the league for enacting a plan approved by the fanbase yet NIco Harrison and Patrick Dumont keep their job for alienating their fanbase. Make it make sense.

I've never heard anyone complain about overtime before, so why would anyone want it changed? :x
Overtime is the pinnacle of basketball, there is nothing more intense :D
Or are today's athletes too weak to play overtime?

Alot of games can be decided and finish on free throws as well, no one likes those games either but the analogy fits.

We're talking about a double OT game it has gone the distance, if it's about possession of the ball that your worried about you could always make them jump for it in this scenario.
