Defending back to back MVP and wins Wimbledon in his off-season. Incredible athlete. And still has time to terrorize Gotham on the side. What a man!

Still insane to think that prior to Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, the most majors won was Sampres with 14.

Those 3 all played during same era and all won 20+ each. Amazing era of tennis

Yep... these 3 guys overlap the field in such a way that's mind-boggling to see.

How many years will they play at such a high level? Seems like they are not going away anywhere soon.

Nadal is the goat, not Novax. Djokovic didn't even win against Nadal, who couldn't play the semis.

Saw the headline & thought the thread was about Jokic playing golf.

I’d go Djokovic. Nadal’s second to me, but his GOAT claim is really based on dominating one surface to a degree that nobody has ever dominated a surface before. It’s amazing for sure, but he wasn’t as all-around dominant on every surface the way Federer and Djokovic were/are. Djokovic also went up against Federer and Nadal in their primes and won, on their best surfaces. And he’s got some of the most individually dominant seasons tennis has ever seen. Only Federer really compares in terms of peak.

But Nadal and Djokovic are still playing all time level tennis and are still the top two in the game. Their legacies aren’t anywhere close to cemented yet.

Lol so let’s pretend like Djokovic also hasn’t had to leave or sit out a bunch of tournaments because of injury, which allowed Nadal (and Federer) to win some Grand Slams.

Nadal didn't even win against Novak in the Australian Open, who couldn't play in the tournament.

He's waaaaayyyy too reliant on his performance on clay.

The way I see it:

Nadal > Federer > Djokovic >>> everyone else

Top 3 all time ain't bad, congrats to the Joker on winning Wimbledon.

I don't know anything about Tennis but the massive difference indicates to me aging is easier now in tennis than in prior eras. If it was just one guy I'd write it off. But with so many blowing away the prior mark their must be training, medical advances that allow players to maintain effectiveness longer

Non-tennis guy here: I've seen that stat about Nadal (14 of 22 Grand Slams on clay). That does point to him depending on clay for a lot of wins.

1. Is clay a common surface for tennis?
2. What makes playing on clay different than grass and hybrid (I think this is the proper term for the other surface)?
3. Why is he so much better on clay than other surfaces?

I'd appreciate any answer from tennis fans
