Y’all, Scott Agness finally shared something, but IT’S A 3 YEAR DEAL! Player option on the 3rd.

Smith's agents were at the presser so it's reasonable to believe they talked to reporters after the formal event.

Interesting. It basically aligns his potential payday with Haliburton (and Nesmith lol)

Looks like Pacers now have a short window (this off-season and next off-season) to be a cap space team if they want to

After that it'll be a steady nonstop cascade of players needing bigger contracts. Haliburton and Smith will be the first wave. Then Duarte and Jackson. And Mathurin after that

If they all turn out good and end up commanding a salary in the $20-30m/yr range, we probably aren't going to be able to keep them all

Imagine adding a max Ayton into the mix

I can't imagine anything good coming out of making a formal offer for Ayton regardless of whether he winds up taking it.

What would a signing of Ayton say about Jackson and Jalen Smith? Goga in a way, too, but whatever there. But man, you’re saying you’re projecting those other two to not be likely to take a starting spot for the entirety of their deals.

It cuts Jackson out of starting for sure. Stix is PF starter. Goga is a backup for his immediate future until he breaks out because he’s shown little progress.

I’m not really into overpaying for Ayton although he could become a really good big man. My wish is that Turner gives the Pacers a commitment to the future and end all this

CC in this podcast is surprising semi-negative about Smith at the 4 because of its implications for iJax. trading Turner for someone other than a center or just letting him walk next summer solves that issue though.

One thing i found interesting, on the Fieldhouse files podcast by Scott Agness, he mentioned that during the recruitment of Smith to re-sign with the Pacers, coach Carlisle flew to Smith's hometown Baltimore and had dinner with him and his family. Think that's pretty cool.
