I'd much rather have ties after 2 OTs in the regular season than sudden death

Funny as I was watching the game last night I thought 7 then 8 then settled at 10. Haha.

But after maybe triple OT make it a set score first team to 7 or 10 wins. Think this season that would have came into effect a handful of times. Make it a complete rarity.

1v1 after 2 overtimes would be sick.

Sounds fine to me in the regular season. Preserve the bodies of the players by not making them play additional over times. I haven’t watched the summer league, but I assume you have the team jump for the tip and then the team that wins the tip has the first chance to score. Whoever scores wins. I would outlaw free throws though. No free throws to win the game. If it’s a Shooting foul, you can inbound the ball and reset the clock. Honestly, that sounds pretty exciting,

I would start off by having them only do this after the first over time but I might transition to replacing all regular season over time entirely if it seems to be working out.

I find OT games exciting, so I'm confused. Why would you want to shorten an already exciting game? Sounds like an awful idea brewed up by writers who watch teams they don't like and want to go to bed early.

No, I don't. If they're looking to shorten OT, remove all timeouts. That'd be fun.

I don't hate it for the regular season, but I'd make a few changes.

1. Opposing team gets a chance to match if a team scores on the first possession. Sorta like College Football or the NFL if a team hits a FG.

2. Shorter shot clock. Teams should have to play half court with like...a 10 second clock. This gives the heightened defensive intensity more shine.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

No that's dumb, summer league games don't matter and have to get over with so other teams can play in the same venue so not an issue for actual NBA basketball.

I’m not sure it would make a significant difference tbh. Both teams would have a fairly even shot to win the game just like the current rules. This just makes it happen a lot faster and ups the tension.

A ref's toss should never mean that much.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

It would have to be some kind of Mario Party pipe system where the ball drops through one pipe above the court but you don't know which one. There's too much riding on the jump ball and the referee's toss otherwise.

This is the epitome of a summer league / pre season rule.

The game is irrelevant so why are we playing OT - just end it

Horrible idea. Although as an alternative I do like the idea of no timeouts, or maybe just one, in overtime periods.

I think sudden death makes a lot more sense for sports that have more infrequent scoring (soccer, hockey) and both teams possess the ball. In the nba sudden death overtime could last ten seconds lol.

Not exactly the most entertaining way to end a game.
