The Boys is the perfect representation of what the genre can be. It’s slightly ahead of a dystopian reality. Kinda like Veep with more gore, sex, and fake heroes.

Easy way out for Duffer Bros to kill off a newly introduced character, but they built Eddie up beautifully. I was the basketball and football jock in high school that also loved D&D and rock and roll, this all hit super close to home and I ate it the **** up. RIMFP Eddie, you metal deity.

Spoiler:
Eddie was a legend. The actor that played the character was goddamn amazing. And that scene on the trailer *chefs kiss*. The Duffer Brothers are seriously great at introducing beloved characters only to take them out later that same season.

My one gripe is them seemingly retconning the Mind Flayer. In the earlier seasons (and interviews with the creators) they made it clear the MF was this eldritch horror of inexplicable origin hellbent on taking over our dimension. Which is awesome. But now, it's actually Vecna controlling the MF. That reveal was incredibly disappointing on so many levels. I pray they have something more creative up their sleeve regarding the MF.

Spoiler:
I personally think that the MF is still the real big bad and that VH1 is just his puppet, deceiving him into thinking he is in control (some real eldritch sh*t). I think MF eventually turns on him now that it's gotten access to the real world, and Henry gets something of a redemption arc. Fan theory suggests the 11+8+1=20 critical hit is to take down Vecna, as foreshadowed in the Hellfire Club campaign, but what if it's El(011)+Kali(008)+Henry(001)=20 to banish the MF for good?

One episode in. I like it.

Finished it. Good stuff. No official word on season 2 but there are more books so it's likely

I liked it so much I finished it in two days (which is rare for me). Was even a little surprised by the ending. Overall I liked it on the level of the Reacher series. Good stuff, would watch more for sure.

Spoiler:
Yeah Muster of Puppets came to my Junior year of high school and I rushed out and got it on tape because Tide the Lightning was still burning up my Walkman daily two years later. I was listening to it between classes and wouldn’t shut it off and put it away until the teacher started talking. So one guy in my class turns around during the class to ask what I was listening to and I reply the greatest band ever lol. When he asked who and I told him he scoffed and said they won’t last so I asked him who was better. He replied Depeche Mode and after I finished laughing I decided to politely engage in the debate. I’m always out of town for reunions but I’m curious to revisit it one of these days lol. Anyway I was a huge D&D nerd back in those days so Stranger is definitely my wheelhouse. Only difference is that I joined the military to fight monsters.

Similar story here. I was a freshman though. Put that on in my basement bedroom and Battery & MoP punch you in the mouth right out of the gate. One of my strongest music memories was putting on that record for the first time.

wrt Stranger Things, I was confused. I had to check the timeline because I knew the setting was early 1986 and I knew MoP came out early 1986. Turns out the setting was March of 86 and MoP was released March 4, 1986 which makes Eddie one of the greatest guitarists ever because he learned that whole song by ear while being a murder suspect.

Was traveling this weekend and catching up on free movies on the airlines.

Finally saw Morbius, woof. Like first few Sony Spider-Man movies bad. All I could think about is how bad Matt Smith has been in everything since Dr Who.

Northman. It dragged at points but overall I liked it a lot. I was expecting it to be over the top art house but it wasn’t. Stayed true to the period and subject, very similar level to the Skarsgård Tarzan. Good stuff.

Unbearable Nic Cage lol. I didn’t get to finish it but was expecting it to be laughably awful but it was entertaining. It moved pretty good and for what it is and I was entertained. I think if u hate nic cage you’ll hate it but old Nic Cage talking to his imaginary young valley girl aged self was funny. And all the jabs at some of his many bad movies got laughs out of me too.The interaction with his wife and daughter was cringeworthy though.

I went to see The Black Phone this weekend. Maybe I was expecting too much with the solid reviews it received, but it didn't really do it for me. The child actors were good, but everything just seemed to be lacking. It's not much of a horror movie either, and probably fits better into the thriller category.

Thor L&T was just a popcorn flick, nothing more, nothing less

I'm confused how Ragnarok is considered one of the best while L&T is being discussed as the worst.

There's definitely some pacing issues and Ragnarok is certainly better, but they're not that far apart.

I think expectations for Marvel films has just gotten unreachable

Everything after Endgame is always going to be not as good as the ones before.

Which should be expected? You had the BIG BAD wipe out half the universe. The stakes were about as high as you could get and then we got a great finale with Endgame which to me felt like it was the 'end end' of Marvel as we knew it. I assume Kang is going to be the new BIG BAD but so far he's been a no show outside of Loki.

Eh I thought the Avengers Battle for New York, Cap Winter Soldier/Civil War, and Black Panther storyline was way better than Endgame

Black Widow was better than anything that's come out since End Game. And it's because it's a well-written, more grounded story based on a well established character with an actual interesting backstory. Anything involving the infinity stones or celestial stuff is just straight up boring, because they've already spent a good 10+ movies exploring it to the point where everything now feels incredibly low stakes compared to what happened previously.

Star Wars is pretty much having the exact same problem when they're constantly having to ret-con everything. AKA we gotta "explain" why these new and more powerful heroes and villains decided to just, idk, chill out and not do anything while the literal **** Battle for the Universe was going on...

Everyone needs to check out "The Alpinist" which is a netflix documentary about a rock climber.

- The scenery/cinematography is incredible, it literally is filmed on location in many of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.

- There are some pretty interesting characters interviewed from some of the continent's quirky sub cultures

- It turns out a dorky homeschool kid from Canada is possibly/probably the most ballsy, daredevil in the history of the world and is doing things that legitimately expand human comprehension of what is possible to accomplish

Seriously, even if you don't like climbing or the outdoors, this is a fascinating story. Put it on, give it some time, wrap your head around what this kid is doing. But what is just as compelling to me as the solo climbs this kid has accomplished (I'm not a climber myself) is his elusive nature. In an era of human history where everyone posts everything and fame is the ultimate commodity, this extraordinary guy is intentionally doing globally significant things totally in secret. While suggesting this makes his experiences more authentic. Its so interesting.

Anyone watch Girl in the Picture on Netflix? I haven't finished it yet, but it's a true crime doc that's super messed up.
