Which NBA Player Can Squat the Most?

Post#1 » by bballfan1three3 » Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:54 am

Which NBA Player Do you think could Squat the most pounds? My money would definitely be on one of the big guys, either Boban or Saaq. Maybe Sabonis or one of the big boys out east, Pekovic??? Boban? Or would it be a smaller fellow, a JJ Berea type, where the strength to power ratio is simply obscene. I can imagine them little fellas in the NBA have to be as strong as an ox to compete with them big boys. I could see JJ squatting 500,I could see him squatting 200. Maybe it's Who knows, never been invited in an NBA weightlifting session.

Who are the GOATS of squat?

Barkley
Shaq
Wilt of course
Pekovic
Mark Eaton
Some beast from the 40s we haven't discovered yet
Prime Harden

I could see any of them putting up 5, 600 pounds. But I don't know. Who is the Best?

Weight x (vertical leap) certainly sounds like a good metric from which to start guessing.

That said, some big-guy hopless wonders can probably squat a lot too. E.g., Grant Williams supposedly has lost a lot of vertical leap from college, but he's a super-strong guy even so.

D.J. Mbenga

Pekovic would probably be right after him.

Steven Adams can squat and deadlift a metric ton
Kids played football, drove cars, went to school, celebrated life; while soldiers, heroes, their brothers struggled to find their way home from war; and young boys watched and grew wiser in their dreams.

Not center sized guys.

This has been discussed before. The guys who lift heaviest are usually shorter, stockier with smaller wing spans. So NBA players in general won't be the best at it, but if you were to pick one, it'd likely be someone that resembles a fire hydrant, like Kyle Lowry.

We talking real squats or the squats professional athletes do when a tv camera is around, where they are loading the bar and go down like 10cm?

Ex nba. Nate Robinson. His size plus his jumping ability. He'd be a squat master if he trained it. IPF pro for sure

This isn’t how squatting works and there’s no way of knowing. Squatting doesn’t have a lot to do with jumping. You’re looking for a shorter guy with really defined quads I guess because that guy prolly has the knees to handle it

Having strong quads/legs isn’t always a good indication of how much you can squat.

If you don’t have a strong core or have had back or knee injuries it can make a huge difference

On the leg press where I don’t have to rely on my core or worry about my back as it’s being supported by the back rest, I’m able to press more than most people. However I’m very unimpressive in what I can squat in comparison as I don’t have a strong core, a broken disc in my back and torn meniscus

Stories about Leonard’s Herculean strength have long been whispered about around the league. There’s a machine in the San Antonio Spurs’ weight room that staffers referred to as “The Yo-Yo.” An athlete stands on a metal platform and straps into a harness around the midsection, which is attached by a thick wire that connects the harness to a steel wheel underneath the base. The athlete then performs a squat, anchored by the steel wheel that pulls the athlete down, making it more difficult to stand upright from a deep squat. (Hence, “The Yo-Yo.”)

For most pro athletes, this is a grueling exercise, like a super squat. But after several repetitions on “The Yo-Yo,” it was clear that this wasn’t a challenge for Leonard. Under close observation of strength coaches and teammates, Leonard took it to another level. The trainers added a steel plate that would create a downward force of two times Leonard’s body weight, which at the time was around 250 pounds.

Leonard kept going, with relative ease. Then suddenly, Leonard stopped. The room turned silent as Leonard looked down at his feet. He cracked the metal platform. He literally broke the machine. Said one Spurs staffer who witnessed it that day: “Too strong for it.”

clearly this is not weight class divided.

if it was i'd pick someone thick legged like cp3

i'll bet they all suck because basketball players have a disadvantage because of their long limbs

None of them, at best they’re doing Ssb on a high box. Basketball is not football or rugby
