Any update on T Ross situation?

Post#1 » by magickingdom » Tue Jul 12, 2022 5:22 pm

Anyone have any new info?
Does he still want a trade or does he like what he sees and is ready to stay?

I just don’t think he has any value so he’ll most likely just stay put and be a ‘veteran presence’. I feel like we’ve been trying to trade him for years now lol.

I read an article that talked about the biggest need for every NBA team and had the Magic needing a good spot up 3 point shooter. If Ross is committed here for at least next year and puts in the effort (which it seems he lacked last year) he could once again be that flame on guy for us again. Hopefully filling that need? Then we have depth and versatility at every position.

There are only real scenarios here:
1) buyout/ vaiwed
2) stays

There is clear decline in value of expiring contracts and he is way too expensive for any suitor. Most realistic scenario for him is to be vaiwed and signed with some Lakers, Bucks, Clippers or whoever.

He could be traded in a package that releases another teams injury. Say a team with a 10M player that can't play for Ross' 12M expiring.

What does Orlando get back in that trade: our fan-favourite CASH CONSIDERATIONS.

Somebody might still have a Trade Exception...he could really help a contender, IMO. Last year doesn't even count.

My favorite option is he stays and is inspired by what we're building. The back to backs of Franz & Paolo (and even Suggs) make his particular skill set (when he's engaged AND the team is trying to win) a good match...I hope he buys in, even if it's just until the trade deadline...if he plays well, at that point, he and Weltman could discuss what direction he prefers.

Honestly, right now, he seems to have negative value based on last year...he's better than that and ORL is deserving of better return for him. If he's completely off the train, then we could buy him out...but I hate that option for a guy who could/SHOULD contribute.

Given that the Houstan and Bol contracts are in full, Ross MUST be dealt for not-a-player or waived.

There is literally no other choice for management now. And as 29 teams know Orlando must move Ross, that depresses whatever trade value he had.

Even considering Ross and a 2nd pick, that might be Ross + a 2RP for something. Maybe Ross and a 2nd rounder swap. But all that does is free up cap space.

pepe is correct: Ross will need to be bought out or waived, as #2 is not an option (without another wild trade; F-Wagner and Anthony for Mitchell - something crazy like that which leads to an unbalanced set of players.).

Can't we just cut Cannady or Houston?

I do feel like we will somehow be part of one of the blockbuster trades.

We wont get a superstar, but I think one or two of our young player and tross will be traded away for some picks. I suspect Okeke and Hampton to go alongside Tross.

The "can" be cut, but why would they. That both (and Bol) where signed to full contracts, it is clear management expects to develop these three.

Ross is gone.

I would think Ross has value to a contender. Bucks, Grizzlies, Bulls, Mavs... Reasonable expiring contract, 3-point shooter, total pro, experienced. He was in a no-win situation last year with a team of 21-year-olds trying to lose.

Cut Ross and stretch his contract and be done. Do right by the Vet and let him pick his next team.
$4M over each of the next 3 years won't kill this team.

Last thing in the world we'd do is stretch it. Buy him out or let him expire...why carry any of his salary forward?

I'd like to see him play...He must really want out if we sign Bol and Cannady to real NBA deals and buy out TRoss to watch him light it up for the damn Lakers who've built their own cap prison.

At the last trade-deadline there was a lot of speculation on Boston. It never happened (obviously), but the Celts continutes to be a good forever home for Ross.

Here is an editorial on Boston two SRPs for Ross. Not sure what Orlando would do with two late 2RPs, but this is basically all we Magic fans can expect. Unless Ross is part of a mega-trade package that none of us expect.

LINK: B/R’s latest mock trade sends Terrence Ross to the Boston Celtics

What is amusing is that it is a trade of Fournier that makes a Celts trade for Ross possible. Thank you Knicks.

They may want to keep him around for a veteran presence. I think he's gave sound advice to the young guys. I remember him telling one of the young players on his podcast to just buy a house rather than rent an apartment. Houses are a good investment here and probably a better quality of life. A lot of them ended up buying houses near where he lives.

Orlando is a great place to live.
