Guys already make so much money and people already have minimized pretty much everything that isnt a championship. Youre just not going to be able to get these guys to care about this stuff. It is what it is.

Zero incentives for players there.

The idea is garbage. Unless there is VERY significant incentive for players, why would they risk injury for a mid-season tournament?

I think the midseason tournament will go hand in hand with NBA having 32 teams.

- 32 teams allows you to have an NCAA tournament style to determine a winner.
- If losers keeping playing other teams in 5 rounds then you can actually rank teams in order from 1 to 32
- The rank of 1 to 32 can be the basis of remuneration in the form of lottery odds or cash

Silver is such an reactionary idiot

He’s worried about players not playing during the regular season so why would this give them any incentive to play? It’s just more meaningless games

The only way to get players to care about the regular season is too cut the teams in half that make the playoffs then good teams won’t have cushions to be able to sit their stars all the time.

But that would take revenue from the owners so it’s never gonna happen

As a fan, it's stupid the players and I don't care. As a player, it's stupid. There's no reward they can offer and fans won't care or watch.

I am all for it. If implemented rightly, this has potential to be a great success.

How do we know this?
If you look at the average NBA fan, there are hundreds and hundreds of games that they don't watch, because a) it's not their team and b) they are basically meaningless, stars take games off, good teams don't really care etc.
The average NBA fan probably watches 100 games out of the 1500 games played a year.

If you cut the 1500 games to 1000 more meaningful ones, how do we know the average NBA fan will not end up watching 200 instead of 100? I'm only speaking for myself here but I'd definitely watch more regular season if it had any purpose or meaning whatsoever and good teams were taking it more seriously. And if many fans did the same then the revenue might actually go up.

Reducing the quantity but increasing the quality might actually work out better (don't know, just speculating).
Many people are general NBA or basketball fans, not necessarily fans of only one NBA team.

72 game regular season - each win is worth a point in the standings
Mid season tournament - use F1 racing point system (first gets 15, second 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1).

Make the games MORE important that the other RS games.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I'm more likely to watch a mid-season tournament game then I am middle of the season game between teams I don't care about.
Especially if there is some sort of consequence to winning / losing.

NBA salary is tied to BRI which will rise with a mid-season tourney.

Yeah, these players need more games on their bodies.

I don't get it, just overkill thats gonna need some sort of significant reward for competing.

If theres no high reward then its just gonna be teams putting out SL rosters
