If the Knicks want to build around Brunson , they need to find guys that can consistently hit 3s. Randle and Barrett ain’t cutting it.

I don't think we'll be getting a press conference introducing the new players. Not if tampering allegations are a thing.

Wow they let him walk. I guess we won't be dealing with them anymore lol. Cuban probably finished with us. So we don't trade with heat, nets, mavs

So it's a 3 year, 79 million dollar deal

Because the only way he picks up that last year is if he's so disastrously bad that nobody would offer him any money.

I know the pundits say the contracts are good for a trade. However, on the low a descending deal makes it easier to keep the rest of the youth. When it’s their turn to get paid.

How has Cuban been worse then Dolan? Homerism makes no sense

Loud, obnoxious, meddling but doesn't pay up. Can't land a star no matter how many times the Mavs have cap space. Smuggly bragged about the KP trade. Allowed a gross sexual harassment riddled atmosphere until it was exposed. Hired a wife beater as the coach.

At best, it's a wash due to the similarities. At least Dolan isn't cheap.

Whats the homerism

I’m sure this was just the outcome of negotiation, but trying to understand the Knicks logic here. The descending nature of the contract means it should be easier to trade in the future if it makes sense, but the trade kicker seems to negate the lower annual contract amount in the future.

On the flip side, if the though was more to ensure Brunson’s cap hit is lower in the future so it gives us greater salary cap flexibility for potential free agent signings, the player option on year 4 means either Brunson will be gone or he’ll be starting on a larger contract in year 4.

So, does this all mean we are giving ourselves a 3 year window to push all our chips to the middle and build a contender?

As crazy as that sounds… yes.

A lot of this teams contracts end in three years. Plus I think this team is closer to being a “finished” project than people think. Trading for a star has always seemed to me to be “plan B” only because of how hard it is to pull it off without hitting your team. Trades like Zach to the Bulls or Harden to the Rockets don’t happen often, and this front office seems hesitant to pull a Melo trade 2.0. So considering the extensions all the next wave of identified stars just took I don’t think that is the current plans. Seeing if they have a core for a contender to then build on just makes sense. Once they have that then they can chase Star player FA.

Hmmm... thinking about it, this is the second contract this FO has given to a player that has a trade kicker in it. I don't like that trend and have to wonder how much of an issue this will be going forward.

Third. Randle, Brunson, Hartenstein.
