Re: Offseason Thread VOL 5 - I WILL BRING LIGHT
I get that Mitchell/Jimmy/Bam vs Jimmy/KD is up for debate, but if you can get Kevin freaking Durant without giving up Bam it's a no-brainer to try everything possible to get that trade done. He's on a different level than Mitchell. It's really not even close.
KD/Jimmy/Bam is the championship favorite and I'm the furthest thing from a homer. A trio with Mitchell is a contender for sure, but not the favorite.
Let KD/Jimmy ride off into the sunset (retirement) with a chance at a few rings over the next couple of seasons. Then you have Bam who may be around 28-29 at that point along with a ton of cap space.
Bring Kevin home, Riley!

Nobody needs cap space to take Herro, a simple trade of around 6 mil can get it done, after the trade they can extend him or just wait till next year. Herro's current contract is just under 6 million.
What I meant to say is a team whom will have cap space when he is extended and his salary hits, I’m sure no team is paying the tax for Herro, unless they are a contending team willing to pony up above tax threshold.
San Antonio and Utah.. OKC. I'm sure there is a small market team out there with little prospects eager to lock in a marketable 22 year old with extremely high offensive upside.

I think KD should be first option, Mitchell can always come here to team up with bam in their primes at (28)

that team would absolutely decimate the competition.
Not getting KD without Lowry going
This is going to be one of the more outrageous deals ever completed if it's a 4 teamer.
If anybody can pull this off is Andy and his magical mathematical fingers…

Herro and Duncan to OKC for 2 first round picks
Filler gets sent to the nets
Lowry to mavs for a FRP, filler gets send to the nets
6 FRP’s, Yert + filler from other teams for KD
Vincent/
Oladipo/Strus
Butler
KD/Martin/Jovic/Haslem
Bam/Dedmon

Yep, he’s holding too much cap space up, Duncan and Lowry have to go
The problem is who can we trade these players to?
That’s why Durant is not with the Heat right now. Really hard to get the kind of assets the Nets want for an aging PG and an overpaid bloated contract in Duncan. Teams feel like you should be paying them for Duncan. You can trade Lowry to a contender like the Clippers but the Nets want picks and young players not Kennard, Morris, and Reggie Jackson.

OKC has SGA, Giddey and Dort at their guard positions, they're not going to want Herro.
SA is trying to tank for Wembanyama also.
Herro would be a good pickup for Utah who is be on their new timeline and they have to get to 90% of the salary cap so they do have to pay someone.

Utah did just get a bunch of picks from the timberwolves as well, but will Ainge help us?

OKC has SGA at the two spot. They have no need for Herro or his extension.

He'd be helping himself. He's in the Western Conference, why would he care about Miami, Miami's trying to win in the next 4 years, he's still going to be rebuilding at that time.

Giving Ainge Herro and up to 3 1st is helping his rebuild plenty.

just to clarify. salaries don't need to be an exact match due to the 125% trade matching rule. Sending out Lowry, Herro, and Yurt would suffice in terms of making the trade legal. Adding Duncan would be an unnecessary hurdle that Miami doesn't need to deal with. Plus looks like BKN would like to take back as little salary as possible anways.

This is true, I think plenty of team would be interested in Herro and Duncan for 2 FRP’s though
Hornets, Pacers, Magic, Kings, Spurs

Ainge definitely going the Boston 2.0 route.
I feel like Lowry would hold value still. The deal is only 2 years, it's bad but for the right team, he'd be a valuable piece. Duncan...woy...I don't know how we move that one without parting with an asset.

I want to remind everyone that Jimmy, KD and Bam all expire in the 2026 offseason. That's the reload timeline.

Riley has already said in the past that we're an "every other year drafting team". He clearly doesn't care about parting with multiple picks if it means getting the guy he wants NOW.
That doesn't even mention our ability to find Undrafted Gems off the scrap heap and build them into valuable rotation pieces. We do that better than any team in the league.
I love the Draft. It's one of my favourite days on the NBA calendar. But I get it when it comes to the Heat organisation and why the day is lower tier for us.

Herro to the Spurs is a lot more realistic then OKC. Herro and Keldon Johnson were roomies in college.

Spurs would take on Duncan too, which would be huge. If we need picks though, they may not be as willing to send them given they're about to go the full rebuild route.
