Dipping the question I see. I'm going by the facts we've had. The Nets gave Kyrie Irving and his camp permission to seek out a S&T, and the market was ice cold. He opted into his player option. Those are the facts. But now we're suddenly hearing that Kyrie Irving is committed to playing in Brooklyn for the 2022-03 season? He wouldn't have been shopping himself in a S&T scenario if he was truly committed to staying in Brooklyn. There were a list of teams that Irving was willing to play for, and only the Lakers seem to have motivation to trade for him.

Tangibly speaking, what could have possibly changed since Kyrie was allowed to shop for a S&T and now him being committed to the Nets? The only change over that time period was the Durant trade request.

Lol no youre "looking at the facts" to prove he wants to be traded to your team.

Don't pretend like you have any objectivity.

I don't even care at this point whether Kyrie leaves or stays as long as we get a decent return.

But don't dismiss Brian Lewis as an "unreliable" source because you don't like what he has to say.

But as a Celtics fan I am delighted to see them take this brilliant situation and just toss in the trash. What a trio of morons!

So sad and pathetic.

Nets easily have the most talent in the NBA.

But all 3 of their "stars" are nut jobs.

If they all shut up and play basketball they have a very good chance of winning the East.

KD is not in any way a nut. He's pretty damn normal. He just DGAF what anyone thinks most times, which seems alright by me.

Ben is having some mental health issues that seem solvable. Confidence in his back etc.

Kyrie is pretty out there. He's just plain selfish and unempathetic too often.

I don't anything changed. I think several factors are at play.

1. Kyrie is abnormally mercurial. He's not a difficult co-worker the way someone like Chris Paul is. Paul complains about everyone but his behavior is very predictable. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and gets extremely upset when people make errors he considers avoidable. Kyrie isn't so a shift in stance is plausible to me in a way it wouldn't be for most other players.
2. To the degree Kyrie has any current long-term professional goals, it seems he wants a max. When he saw how fallow the trade market was for him his people probably told him a 5 yr max is going to be very hard to get based on his actions the last 5 yrs unless he turns in a normal 2023 campaign (65+ games, no personal days, no weird time off, etc.).

How long ago was that? Dude's 33 now. He doesn't care. That's why he trolls people. Just listen to any interview, the guy is as normal as they get, but people hate the dude so they look for reasons.

And no offense to anyone there .. most people aren't even close all grows up when they are in their twenties, especially the first half.

I assumed all this trade stuff was because the Nets want to move on. If Kyrie wanted out he would have tweeted some sort of obscure passage written in Sanskrit indicating such.

He's obviously going to be traded and the reporting was heavy that he prefers the Lakers in 2023 too. This is all nonsense technicality. When he opted in, people were like, the drama is over! Nevermind the fact that his contract expires in 23 and he has no intent to re-sign and Brooklyn obviously doesn't want him back.

Now we're going to have to watch Nets fans reverse their position and defend these guys again? Fickle enough to be swayed by a NYPost article that claims Kyrie never demanded a trade, despite, you know, asking for and receiving permission to look for a sign and trade and providing a list of teams before opting in when no one wanted to be hard capped for him. Despite his best friend wanting out knowing Kyrie's not staying, the same way Kyrie asked out of Cleveland when he knew Lebron was leaving.

Even if Kyrie comes out and publicly says he has every intent of playing for the Nets and re-signing in 23, the Nets will still trade him because he's done this to like two other teams prior and walked in FA. And he's clearly expressed his intent not to re-sign there.

It goes without saying that absolutely none of this makes any kind of sense to me, but didn't Shams say the whole reason KD wants out was in support of Kyrie because they were mad the Nets did not give Ky a long term max extension?

Why the heck would KD want out in support of Kyrie but Kyrie doesn't want out in support of Kyrie?

Can I just address something else about KD + Kyrie + Simmons being contenders?

Do we really think Ben Simmons + post-injury TJ + Warren + Royce Oneal gets them from a first round sweep to the championship?

The Nets are not as close as people are projecting. If they stay in the KD business, they'd need to make moves with the same urgency as LA makes moves around Lebron. 33 year old Durant was as valuable as 37 year old Lebron last year. What's 35, 36 year old Durant going to look like?

I've said from the BEGINNING that I thought the Nets' best plan of action was to try and run it back with Kyrie and Durant. But that's assuming the Nets are actually willing to max Kyrie Irving if he is on his "best behavior" for the upcoming season. But there's a thought process that I think that the Nets view Kyrie as a negative influence on Kevin Durant. If they believe they can make Kevin Durant happy without Kyrie Irving, I think there would be motivation to move Kyrie Irving for another win-now PG. Enter Utah.

LA Lakers Receive:
PG Patrick Beverley
SG Malik Beasley
PF Jared Vanderbilt

Brooklyn Nets Receive:
PG Mike Conley

Utah Jazz Receive:
PG Russell Westbrook

The salary filler included could be swapped between Beasley, Beverley, Clarkson, or Bogdanovic. IF the Jazz want to stay more cap neutral, then they could include Rudy Gay going back to the Lakers, and Jared Vanderbilt being re-routed to the Nets. And add pick as necessary.

This is quite disingenuous considering the Nets were missing their 3rd and 4th best players and every game in the series was close.

they were without two starters, barely played any games together and had a team of centers and point guards plus KD out there

Not sure they would be the best team in the conference or anything but adding any version of Sixers Simmons to the team makes them a contender. Not to mention O'Neal, Harris, and whatever Warren can provide. Would be a completely different team.

At the end of the day, availability is everything, and i dont have faith that a team with that injury riddled of a core will be able to go for 2 months straight healthy playing high intensity ball.

That said, yes, if they remain healthy, that team is a problem. Their biggest issue this year in the playoffs was size. They had Seth Curry guarding Daniel Theis ffs

Kyrie
Harris/Seth
Simmons/Royce
KD
Claxton

is awesome, and if they stay together and buy in, i think they have a decent package to bring in a better C using the 2 Philly picks (Myles Turner?)
